On the final day of the Black History Art and Artifacts Exhibit, a reception celebrated the efforts of many who grew the exhibit from a single room to a full-fledged display at a community Center.

The event provided a timeline of historical events featuring art, artifacts, literature, and creative arts that reflect the African American experience in America.

The highlights the homeland of Africa, slavery, the adaptation to plantation living, the Church, the emancipation of the slaves, adaptation to freedom, the civil rights movement, and end with the historic election of Barack Obama, the first African American President of the United States of America.

The Black History Exhibit was sponsored by a collaboration of community partners:  Ruah Community Outreach, Inc., Parent Partners Providing for the Education of Young Children, the JTS Art Gallery, the City of Antioch, and the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch.

Assemblyman Jim Frazier, Antioch City Councilwoman Monica Wilson and Mary Rocha were in attendance to thank all involved.

According to Diane Gibson-Gray, the event brought in several hundred students from not only Antioch, but Pittsburg and other surrounding communities during its month long exhibit.
