On Saturday October 12, community leaders came together to discuss a variety of issues relevant to East Contra Costa County during the Peoples Equity Summit for A fair and just community.

The event featured Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan, Supervisor Mary Piepho, Antioch Mayor Wade Harper, Councilmembers Mary Rocha, Tony Tiscareno and Monica Wilson. Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando and Antioch Unified Superintendent Donald Gill also spoke.

The event discussed jobs, wages, healthcare, immigration and labor rights. Those in attendance worked to find solutions of how to move forward and create a better East Contra Costa County.

Would some one please report on the article I read in the Times about the “Studying the achievement gap”?! I was so angry to read about how the Antioch school district has to be more in tune with student’s needs, instead of kicking them out of school. I’m sorry, if you are minding the rules that all kids must follow, then there is no reason you would be kick out out school! It is not hard for parents to discipline their kids and have them stay in school. Thought most of the families that moved their kids out here to DVHS was to give them a better education in a safer place? Now we are being told that they shouldn’t get in trouble or show respect! Glad my kids are graduated and off to college. This should fall under the “wanting a better community”. They all live here too.

This looks like it was a worthwhile event. I wish I could have been there.

If the three stooges, Harper, Rocha, and Tiscarino were there, then I didn’t miss much. These clowns are pros at performing a magic show. Just watch the Antioch Council meetings. They are horrible at keeping Antioch safe. Wilson is just a moot point. She’s like a parrot.

The only people that made out here are the politicians who turned in a bill for stipends. You can talk about crime all you want. Only doing something about it will get results. RB has got it right.
