Oakland: Amber Alert Issued After Carjacking

A Amber Alert was issued Tuesday afternoon when witnesses reported seeing a  shoplifter jump into an SUV outside a Safeway store in Oakland. The vehicle reportedly drove off with an elderly man and a 13-year-old girl inside. The subject may be armed with a knife.

The incident happened at 12:50 p.m. in the parking lot of a store at 4100 Redwood Rd., northeast of Highway 13 at the edge of the Redwood Heights neighborhood.

The alleged kidnapper was described as a black man in his 40s, 5-foot-7 and 165 pounds, with salt and pepper hair. He reportedly wore a green shirt, a blue jacket, blue jeans and headphones.

Oakland Police are on-scene at Safeway, 4100 block of Redwood Road, investigating a report of a possible carjacking and child abduction.

At about 1pm, police received calls regarding a suspect who was observed entering a vehicle and reportedly forcing the driver to drive away. A child was reportedly seen in the rear seat.

The vehicle was described as a red 2001 Infiniti, California license 6JFM648. Updates will be issued as new information is developed or confirmed.
