The sheriff’s office stated that on July 13, 2016, Adan Katani, 38 of Antioch, was shot and killed in his vehicle at the intersection of Meekland Avenue and Blossom Way in Hayward.

Responding Deputies were able to arrest Johnny Wright (46) and Chariot Burks (25) as they attempted to flee the scene. Both were charged by the Alameda County District Attorney for the murder of Katami. Detectives learned Wright and Burks came from Tennessee to specifically kill Katami.

Detectives began to inquire why two suspects would come from Tennessee to kill Katami.

Further investigation revealed that Tikisha Upshaw (37, San Leandro) and her associate, Wessley Brown ( 38, Berkeley) had hired the Tennessee duo to murder Katami.

During Upshaw’s arrest on December 22, 2016, ACSO Detectives, located a sophisticated and illegal marijuana grow in her home. The Alameda County District Attorney has filed multiple felony charges, including murder, against Upshaw and Brown. They are in custody at Santa Rita Jail.
