Multisensory Room Set to Have Impact on Special Needs Community

by ECT

After two years of working to raise $36,000 to build its state of the art multisensory room, Special Haven is now open for business for the special needs community and others who may benefit from it.

The first of its kind in East Contra Costa County, the room is designed to provide a safe and calming atmosphere for special needs children to play in an environment that they can control. The room is filled with equipment that can change colors, sounds, vibrations, along with a water bed and other features.

Although the room cost $36,000, thanks to a grant from the Christopher Douglas Hidden Angel Foundation, Special Haven only had to raise $20,000.

“It’s an awesome opportunity to be here and I want to thank all the participants apart of this process. I am proud to represent you and be a Special Haven sponsor and have attended some of the events,” said Assemblyman Jim Frazier. “I know there was some times where it seemed like that hill was not going to be climbed but you guys kept at it and you believed in what you were doing. You do it! This is going to be an opportunity for the special needs community and our families. “

He explained how the organizations labor of love will make a difference for many years to come and he am proud to recognize the first multisensory room in East County.

“Everyone here should have equal access to recreational activities and opportunities regardless of abilities. This opens up the role of play for our children and adults with special needs and offers a safe and soothing place to have fun. This has the potential to serve seniors and veterans and range of others. I also heard today it can help wit Alzheimer’s,” explained Frazier. “This offers respite for families. We all know it takes a special mom and dad to be a parent of a special needs child.

Frazier also stated that he will continue to work on behalf of the special needs community to ensure services are being provided and expanded.

Assemblyman Jim Frazier donated $1,000 to help ensure the facility remains open while Antioch City Councilman pitched in another $100. Special Haven will now be working to fundraise to keep the room open and cover operating costs.

The room is located at 213 G St, Antioch and may be used by appointment 10am-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at the cost of $5 donation per hour to Special Haven.

You can contact the Intuitive Healing Center Antioch, home of Special Haven, at 925 777 9995 for more information about Special Haven, for a tour of the room, to find out about training to use the room or to book an appointment.

What a great addition to Antioch and the special needs community. Thank you to City Councilwoman Monica Wilson and Assemblyman Jim Frazier for showing support to Antioch. Wish more City Councilmembers showed support of this facility.

Now that is something Antioch can be proud of. We will be happy to donate to a wonderful program like this.
