Cites Monica’s work to improve job training for youth

ANTIOCH, CA – Antioch City Councilmember Monica Wilson announced today she has earned the endorsement of State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.

“I’m supportive of Monica Wilson because she’s worked hard in partnering with the community to improve job training for our youth. We need more public servants like Monica. She has my full endorsement and support.” said Tom Torlakson.

tom torlaksonAs State Superintendent, Torlakson oversees the California Department of Education and all of California’s public schools. He has been instrumental in implementing more rigorous standards in English, math, and science in California while advocating for greater financial investing, aiding the efforts to pass Proposition 30 in 2012 which raised funds to prevent a $6 billion budget cuts to state schools and working to give local school districts greater ability to have control of how they spend money. Under Tom’s leadership, California high school graduation rates rose to an all-time high of 80 percent and almost 95 percent for students in college and career-prep programs.

“Tom Torlakson has devoted his career to East Contra Costa  and his work and passion for education are renowned in the community. I am so humbled by his support and recognition of my work on the Workforce Development Board to improve the local economy and get people working again, particularly our younger residents who are looking for opportunities to get ahead,” said Monica Wilson. “I look forward to working with Tom to bring more resources to East Contra Costa and support our youth.”

Monica Wilson’s work on the Workforce Development Board includes partnering and cultivating relationships with local businesses throughout the county to ensure youth and college-aged members of the community not only have access to job training in a variety of industry sectors but are able to gain valuable work-based learning for the future. She has personally knocked on doors organizing her neighbors to get real results in the community and continues that work for residents at the County Workforce Development Board and on the Antioch city council.

Tom Torlakson is the latest in a string of leaders from the region to rally around Monica Wilson’s campaign for supervisor, including most recently Assemblymember Jim Frazier (AD-11), State Controller Betty Yee, Board of Equalization Chair Fiona Ma, BART Director Rebecca Saltzman, the California Nurses Association, and SEIU 1021.

Frazier and Torlakson are buddies, of course all the dem political hacks are endorsing Wilson. Wilson is not even good for Antioch, maybe she can destroy the County like she did Antioch

Then I’m definitely not supporting him, if she endorses home. She ruined Antioch!!! along with Harper and most of the city Counsel , bunch of crooks in disguise

Isn’t this just a quid pro quo? Monica endorsed Mae Torlakson and kind for a endorsement from Tom Torlakson. This is transparency at it’s best.

I like Tom but in this case his endorsement means nothing. It reflects poorly on him.

I would never vote for Monica or any other Antioch council member. What really matters is their record. Their record is shameful.
