That whole area has become sketchy. I was out there earlier this week (Big 5) and was watching a shirtless 20-30 year old African American man scream at the air. He then walked over to one of the buildings in the parking lot and began to throw punches at the window. What the hell is wrong with people? First a homicide at the OSH and now shooting across the parking lot at Jack in the Box?

I probably should have called the cops. Next time I will. We cannot let this area continue to go down hill.

I hope the gunshot victim survives. This has become unacceptable.

There are so many mentally ill people in this world, it’s just so sad. I see a guy walking up and down Lone Tree sometimes that yells at everyone going by and he flips people off or just holds his hand up while he is yelling. In the 70/80’s when I was a kid I do not remember seeing all these messed up people. It’s such a shame that there are so many people these days with issues, I’m sure from drug and alcohol and some born with illnesses.

BB Jan 26, 2014 - 9:46 pm

That’s Birdman. He is famous around here…

becka Jan 26, 2014 - 11:21 pm

The onevthat flips everyone off right?

dee Jan 26, 2014 - 10:31 pm

Its because when institutions shut down due to horrible living conditions, the mentally ill were packed into vans and dropped off on the streets. And the guy who flips people off is bird man– he is harmless and hilarious

Mark S.. Jan 27, 2014 - 7:16 am

He’s harmless?????? You need to have a tall glass of reality….he is flip pin crazy… PPD has arrested him so many times for causing havoc on our city streets.. it took 4 officers to subdue him and he was acting like s little bitch..You must be OK with him flipping the finger but my 10 & 14 year old kids don’t need to see this….in a nut shell…..he’s flippin crazy….

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 9:45 am

Dee,

People like you are the reason why Antioch tolerates all the crime and blight in the city.

SJ Jan 28, 2014 - 6:09 pm

That’s not why institutions closed. Do your homework before commenting.

A-town88 Jan 27, 2014 - 6:54 am

That man you see that walks up and down the street flipping people off is autistic. Blame everything on mental illness and not the actual cause. Bad parenting

That whole area is a toilet….it used to be a nice place to live..all the scum from Oakland and Richmond have invaded ….please leave our town and go back to the holes from where you came from..

SLW Jan 26, 2014 - 9:39 pm

I just missed that by minutes. Whew. When I was leaving the Walmart parking lot I notice a black guy with braids walking fast in the direction of Walmart. He seemed to be in a hurry. I got this strange feeling and thank god I was moving forward towards the green light before he stepped in front of my car. Wonder if he had anything to do with it? And please don’t pull the race card on this comment.

Recton Jan 26, 2014 - 10:47 pm

I don’t know about you guys, but I love living here in Oakland…errrr I mean Antioch.

Hilarious!

ST Jan 28, 2014 - 9:50 pm

You are recollecting the moment and assume it was a black man…for all we know it was you involved….

Tudbee Jan 29, 2014 - 8:49 pm

OMG…. I experienced somethg similar on saturday night. Was waiting at the traffic light hillcrest/ Lonetree intersection to go towards kohls. I looked back to talk to my daughter and then I noticed a guy in black and dreadlocks crossing from walmart…….not at the crosswalk but across hillcrest and in between cars. I quickly locked my doors and and didnt see where he disappeared to in the dark. Could there be a connection? Who knows. And I’m black but just stating my experience.

SLW Jan 30, 2014 - 9:04 am

Tudbee, this happened Sunday b/t 4pm and 4:07. I left Walmart b/t that time and was driving past Jack in the Box towards Lone Tree when I saw this individual in braids and dressed in a baby blue baseball hat with matching clothes. I have no clue if it’s related and I hate that others think I’m racist because of my opinion and what I encountered. However, as I mentioned in other post, something just didn’t sit right with me.

jc Jan 26, 2014 - 9:40 pm

END SUBSIDIZED RENT VOUCHERS AND ALL THESE TROUBLEMAKERS WILL LEAVE HERE AS THEY WILL NOT AFFORD THE RENTS HERE.

SLW Jan 26, 2014 - 9:55 pm

I do agree with your comments. And if you look in their driveway, they are driving Mercedes, Lexus, BMW and Cadillac’s and some have all of those. I know of a few people living in brand new houses that someone bought for an investment and they pay very low rents because they have been on Section 8 for over 30 years. Not saying they are low life’s though, lazy yes. However, on my street these houses sold for close to 900K back in 1999-2000 and there are a couple of questionable tenants. On the flip side of that, I’m a unemployed single mom of two and I can’t seem to get any assistance to help keep a roof over out heads, and I just worked the last 30 years in Corporate America. Our systems is so screwed up and I’m so fed up with people taking advantage of it.

JB Jan 26, 2014 - 11:08 pm

I truely believe this. Antioch has more of its alotted section 8 . Why do we have so many ?

Julio Jan 27, 2014 - 8:26 am

Allotted Section 8 There is no such thing. We are not “allotted” anything. It is irresponsible landlords who want the guaranteed rent money and no work from themselves. It is a FEDERAL program Antioch has no control over.

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 9:52 am

Julio, so true, so true. The city needs to start coming down on these landlords. And look at all the “grow house” fires that have been popping up because landlords/owners rent to whom ever as long as they are guaranteed their month rent. SMDH

SJ Jan 28, 2014 - 6:21 pm

Actually the county is responsible for operating the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program in Antioch and other parts of the county.

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 9:51 am

We have so many because we and the local government allow it. Investors buy up property and rent them out to section 8. When I say “investors” I mean they are normal people like you and me who put a small down payment and expect something in return when the value goes up.

You can’t fight section 8 directly, but you can put up ordinances and complaints to let investors know it is not wanted and or they need to abide by the rules.

Sue the investor for making your life a living hell by renting to ghetto scum. This has been done before and has been successful.

Demand the RENTAL FEE ORDINANCE to be put into effect.

Small steps but it can be done.

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 26, 2014 - 9:51 pm

Yup, there is that common denominator in Antioch acting up again.

april Jan 26, 2014 - 9:53 pm

These comments are so racial it’s ridiculous. I see a lot of mentally ill people in this area because they have opened a mental clinic on Hillcrest next to Chevron where the mentally ill will need to go everyday to have services. I inquired when I started seeing ALL RACES hang out at safeway. Just because a Black guy was walking toward you at Walmart doesn’t have anything to do with a shooting at Jack in the Box.

The housing won’t be taken away. I have been here since 1989. And own 3 houses in Antioch. Yes things have changes because people have moved to this city with the same attitudes and have started to destroy the suburb life and we are becoming a overcrowded city with crime. The best thing you can do is call the police my neighborhood on Wildhorse is dealing with burglaries while we are home. It’s very scary be proactive and don’t discriminate. Black people may be more obvious and don’t hide behind their crimes but the crime out here has a lot to do with meth addicts etc. Just because he was shot doesn’t mean a black person did it.

MB Jan 26, 2014 - 9:58 pm

You own 3 houses??????? Why? To rent out to section 8, that’s the problem
many buy many houses and just rent away to whomever whatever!!!!!!!! Glad I am out of there!!!!!!!!!!

SLW Jan 26, 2014 - 10:21 pm

MB I’m behind you soon as I get back up on my feet. I’ve lived in East County since 2004, most of that in Brentwood and when I moved over here by Kaiser on DRV Rd. it’s nothing but crime more and more and it’s happening at all hours of the day now. I know it’s getting bad everywhere though. My kids will not go to DRV where the majority is African American (there is the race card again) who are so disrespectful with no morals or ethics and foul mouthed. Just go over to McDonalds or Burger King after school gets out and you will witness what I’m speaking about. My neighbor had her boys in DRV HS for only two days and they were bullied right at the beginning of school. She moved them immediately to a private school. I’m sure there are some good kids there of all races but I’m not staying here. Taking back Antioch is a lot harder then you think when these investors and owners just rent to whom ever, and especially lower income Sec. 8 folks because they know they are guaranteed their money. Now wonder this system is so broken and there is no money anymore. SMDH

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 26, 2014 - 10:26 pm

SLW,

You speak of the truth in regards to outlining some of the major issues here in Antioch. DVHS is a joke, they have no academic achievements. I know exactly what your talking about in regards to the demographics. I see it when I drive by afterschool. Nothing but a sea of the next generation of thug dropouts.

SLW Jan 26, 2014 - 10:37 pm

Took the kids to McDonalds and a friend for an ice cream after school. WOW what a mistake that was. The entire restaurant was filled with nothing but cussing DRVHS kids who were just taking up tables and not eating. I turned around and looked at this one girl and she asked me what the F I was looking at. I was looking at her because she was dropping the F bomb in every word that came out of her disrespectful mouth in front of my little kids. I looked at the girl at the register and asked her why she allows these kids to loiter in the restaurant. She was eventually asked to leave after she kept running her mouth talking to someone on the phone telling them what was taking place. When I left and went to my car she was in the parking lot with a group of people. I told my kids to hurry and get in the car and I was prepared to protect my girls and the friend I had with us. I would of run over their asses if they assaulted me. How embarrassing and how can any parent be proud of their kids. Actually these kids these days are a product of their poor parenting. More friends to them than a parent. I was going to write a letter to McDonald Corporate office and never did. Here is the other thing. That shopping center has roaming security. Why I don’t know because they are on foot. Why no have a golf cart or car???? Where is the security all the time though, sitting in front of CVS with some drunks drinking from paper bags. Seen it more than once now. Wow I feel safe. So glad CVS closed and moved down the street into the other one.

SLW Jan 26, 2014 - 11:04 pm

MB my message that didn’t post said this. I took the kids for a ice cream treat with a friend after school. What a mistake that was. McDonalds was packed with DRVHS students right after we got there. Most of the tables the kids were just sitting there and loitering and not paying customers. This one girl kept dropping the F-bomb in front of my kids and their friend. When I turned around she asked me what the “F” I was looking at. At that point I told her to shut her mouth and I looked at the manager and asked why they let these students take over the restaurant. The girl was eventually asked to leave while she kept running her foul mouth. Long story short, she was waiting in the parking lot for me with a group of girls. The gang started walking over towards my SUV while of course running their foul disrespectful mouths. I told the kids to hurry and get in the car and I locked the doors while I had my cell phone in my hand ready to call APD. At that point I was ready to do whatever I had to protect the kids. What a totally shame and embarrassment. How can these parents honestly be proud of these kids. I totally blame these parents for being more of a friend to their kids then a parent and I truly believe they are a product of this generation and the parenting they grew up in.

I lived in ECC for 30 years. I have had Zero issues with Hispanic or White people. In the past 5 years I’ve had black males & females say rude things to me, cut in front me at the grocery store, steal, panhandle fromme, 3 young black males lie about collecting for boys basketball, (had them arrested) had a 7 year old begging for money in Raleys parking lot while his mother sat in the car, (it was school hours he was filthy) listen to the most foul language I’ve ever heard in public, watch foster grandmothers bring their foster kids one after another to a place of employment just for the cash with their heads full of ring worms. I’ve never seen anything like that in any other cultural & my job had me work with all races.

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 9:56 am

Open your eyes,

Well said. It is ridiculous how all these people who have never experienced the truth behind said culture would stick up for the ghetto scumbags.

Of course, not every single one is like that, but the majority are ghetto foul mouthed scum.

SLW Jan 26, 2014 - 10:05 pm

Hey April… knew it wouldn’t take long for someone to pull the RACE card on the comments. Give me a break. There is white TRASH and BLACK TRASH and all kinds of TRASH in this world today due to mental illness, drugs and alcohol. What I experienced today could of been nothing, but something didn’t sit right with me. The guy was in a hurry and had a strange look on his face. NO ONE said it was a BLACK guy that shot the 33 yr. old at Jack in the Box. My street has been hit three times in the last 6 months one house was a cops, and guess what on the video all 6 guys were black. Go figure. I know there is whites and Mexicans doing the crimes to out there. The problem with this world today is anytime anyone mentions anything it’s RACIAL profiling or someone being racist.

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 26, 2014 - 10:28 pm

Well said

J.Russell Jan 26, 2014 - 10:23 pm

It is so easy to pass judgement but honestly it does not solve the issues we face in East County. We have to give up pointing the finger. We all are the solution to these issues. As a community, let us all promise to be guardians of our neighborhoods. Get to know your neighbors and get involved in the community. Intervene in the schools early before the lifestyle chooses the child…

Sick & Tired Jan 26, 2014 - 10:35 pm

The issue is Liberals have ruined the USA. They give excuses for every person who thinks they have an issue. How about the previous generation that fought in 2 wars. They didn’t have options to have all these issues. They pulled up their boot straps & made lives for themselves. There was none of this entitlement crap. If they hated their jobs they sucked it up. This is a dope head poor me culture the liberals produced. They pissed this country right down the tubes with these none productive loosers that ruin every suburb in America. The reason jails are filled up with blacks is because they can’t stay out of trouble & they still have big chips on their shoulders. Until they get tired of carrying that chip & attitude they will keep screwing up. I’m not in jail because I follow the law. Plain & simple. My life was no picnic growing up, but I never asked for any handouts. Stop the baby making free handouts to all these leeches & we will see our streets clean up over time. It’s not all blacks and yes there are crocked cops, but at some point you have to take responsibility for yourself. Everyone has adversity. I don’t know anyone that was dealt a perfect hand in life.

Buy a Clue Jan 27, 2014 - 9:38 am

@S&T Dude, that’s a big steaming pile of ignorance you got right there.

Far more white people on government assistance programs than any other race in America and guess what. The biggest concentrations are in the south………the Republican controlled south.

Section 8 was brought about as part of the Housing Act of 1937. You really going to sit there and say it’s the cause of a problem today? Your pointless rant does nothing to address the root issues.

Expansion of Section 8 is indicative of an income problem and the tight job market. You cannot “force” people to go out and look for work when there are 3 applicants for every available job in America. A good first step would be to resolve some of the obstructionist garbage in Washington DC and get some job stimulus programs going in America. Start by eliminating the preferential tax policies that encourage export of our manufacturing base. 60,000 factories and millions of jobs have been lost due to that alone over the last 15 years.

The requirements for Section 8 voucher recipients are to spend 30% of income on housing. Which is no different than the formulas for a mortgage. The program has a long waiting list and has drug and criminal background screening involved that the average renter would not have to undergo. So to label all participants as drug dealing thugs is ignorant. Try to separate emotion from fact.

I love the people who insist that if you take the assistance away they will move back to Oakland. Really? So you think the rents are cheaper there? Because that would have to be the case for your math challenged assertions to fly.

Keep advocating for political positions like keeping the minimum wage depressed. It will exacerbate your problem. Desperate people do desperate things. It’s why crime rises during economic downturns. It’s why crime is down in Antioch as the lethargic economic recovery tries to take hold.

The problems of Antioch are complex and deep rooted. Solutions are difficult. But rest assured, mindless and uninformed venting on a blog aren’t going to do a lick of good other than further widen the division within the community. Fixing that divide is the first problem to a meaningful improvement in the quality of life in Antioch. Why make it worse?

Engage in outreach and create opportunities are some of the first steps. Enhance public safety, reduce neighborhood blight and give reason to take pride in the community again. A major downtown revitalization wouldn’t hurt(see Pittsburg). It didn’t get bad overnight. It also isn’t going to get fixed overnight.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 4:18 pm

Great post and view, sad to know it won’t help with the views of the ignorance on here. But i am glad to see someone has sense. Very confused as to why RJB agreed with you though as he called me ghetto for helping in the community. lol

Automatically you think it’s an African American , but do you guys not realize that crimes done here in California are done by all races. Just because it’s antioch doesn’t mean it’s a black person. People get your facts straight, could’ve been an Asian person. Who knows? People are so dammm races now a days.

SLW Jan 26, 2014 - 11:33 pm

I think you’re blind Stephany. Crime is committed by all races, but in Antioch, it’s mostly Black.

karl dietzel Jan 26, 2014 - 11:33 pm

we’re now 3 month past measure c passed. our mayor, as the campaign leader, former cop of 24 years, promised the hiring of 22 officers “immediately” till now nobody got hired, even there are 18 authorized and funded positions on the book. i strongly suggest all the measure c supporter look up the meaning of the word “immediately” .
as of last week, and per city hr, only 5 applicants are in the loop. even if those 5 are hired, that is only replacement level. our crime is out of control, and our city council still have not presented any plan at all, 3 council members run their re-election “though on crime” but also have not presented any plan. mayor harper created a sub-crime committee, which has never met.
no summary/ feed back or anything for that matter came out of the “town hall” meeting at antioch high.
just as a reminder: measure c tax starts collecting in april, and antioch will receive money as the earliest in september.

right now the council, and the hired consultant ( we’re paying her $ 44,000) having micky mouse meetings, dreaming about the annexation, ferry, and god knows what else.

there should be no more meetings, and no more power point presentation, no more promises.

WE NEED ACTION

hire back all code enforcement people back, and all cso’s, which will free up 20 officers right away, which could go on the street.

kick out the political party people out of the police sub-station at the community center, lone-tree way. station some cops there, like promised. that would reduce the response time by 50%.

built up a police reserve group

out source the prisoner transport to a private company.

STOP PROMISING – THE CITY NEEDS ACTION

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 10:10 am

Karl.. so true. However, how is anything going to change unless EVERYONE takes action??? As many have said most of us are venting and speaking the truth and maybe finger pointing, but how many of these people attend the counsel meetings and when the Chief invites everyone to a meeting? I will be so pissed if us citizens of Antioch have the tax increase and we do not see a change. However, did you see the article where they said the crime in Antioch had dropped? Antioch problems are not going to be solved by only APD and the hiring of more officers. Yes, Antioch seriously needs code enforcement back to clean up the city. My husband is a cop and I hate cop bashers because they are not out there everyday leaving their families and putting their lives on the line to protect and serve. Unless you are in law enforcement and see and hear what they have to go through you should not speak bad about cops. I strongly agree that most marriages end because of what the officers deal with on a daily basis and don’t seek help. And I’m not saying there are not bad cops out there, because I’m sure there are. Just as crime is committed by all races.

karl dietzel Jan 26, 2014 - 11:35 pm

i don’t care about the color of the criminals.

I WANT MY CITY BACK

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 10:21 am

Tammy. I’m sorry about your friend. It’s horrible. I think everyone here that is commenting forgot that a human life was shot and injured and we should of made a comment in that fashion, but most of us were focusing more on why and what the problems are in Antioch. APD has not release any info on the shooter, or what happened and when that happens it’s easy to speculate and come to your own conclusions. I doubt very highly that your friend was just sitting in his van at 4pm and was shoot. Again, I’m sorry this happened and maybe when APD releases more info we will all be wrong.

Tammy Kightlinger Jan 27, 2014 - 11:23 am

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 3:51 pm

Tammy, I hope your friend is doing well. The people on here are idiots who handle their own fears in the most negative of ways. They spew hate and complain about things they are unwilling to change and let their words make them seem like worthless human beings. Do not let their hate bring you down. I am not religious so i can not pray for your friend but I will think positively and be hopeful for his recovery. If there is anything he or his family needs post it here and lets see if any of these people really have a heart and help out. See if he needs books, blankets or magazines when he is awake. I can’t provide much at this time but am willing to do what i can.

TLD Jan 27, 2014 - 3:08 am

The girls was eventually asked to leave while she kept running her foul mouth. How can these parent honestly be proud of these kids. I totally blame these parents for being more of a friend to their kids then a parent and I truly believe they are a product of this generation and the parenting they grew up in.

Brett Norris Jan 27, 2014 - 1:07 am

Why don’t you ALL PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND PRAY FOR THAT MAN AND HIS FAMILY! What is wrong with you people? Talking about COLORS? I see RED right now, Because I didn’t read ONE G.D. THING THAT RESEMBLES COMPASSION!! Be ashamed of yourself if you dont pray for him and his family RIGHT NOW!!

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 8:20 am

You are right Brett. However, without the facts everyone including me are commenting with what has been presented. I doubt very highly he was just shot for sitting in his van at 4pm at a fast food restaurant. I’m thinking most likely it was drug related, but they have not said that yet. This is not about color because the person in the van could of been any color.

Joey Jan 27, 2014 - 9:23 am

for real tho!

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 10:03 am

Hey Brett,

How about showing some compassion towards the people who want to be safe and get rid of the ghetto scum in this city so that we can purchase our groceries safely?

You freak’n hypocrite.

Ralph Jan 27, 2014 - 4:43 am

Some may think he’s famous, until somebody takes is finger flipping the wrong way, and does a drive by on his butt, then what~~~

donna t Jan 27, 2014 - 6:14 am

i totally agree BUT the good ole Mayor of Antioch blasted me when i told him that is a large part of the problems in Antioch….get rid of all the low life section 8 (not all but alot are) and the problems will not be as bad….

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 7:27 am

You people are fing idiots. No wonder Antioch has become the shethole it is today. You are racist, ignorant whiners. You spend more time complaining than you do giving back to your community. What have any of you done lately to change this? And writing racist comments on here and facebook do not count. Are any of you business owners? Do you hire qualified people of all races? Have you yourself ever been in the position of the people you blame for your bad behavior? Have you ever been poor, unable tfind work because you can only afford to live in an area that won’t hire you based on the color of your skin?

Section 8 has been available out here for a long time and you all complain like it’s something new. What’s newer is a lot of youth from cities moving here without being trained to survive the new conditions. Can you imagine growing up in a real city and then moving here? There is nothing to do for kids other than school and then everyone’s surprised when they act out. Why not help by making programs for these kids and giving them something to do other than get pregnant and steal?
As for the drugs, that shit has always been a problem and before there were so many black people in the area it was a bunch of whote tweakers. There are still mostly white people on drugs in this area though you still choose to finger point an already discriminated group. Start pointing the finger at yourself for all of these problems because you have done nothing to help, your judgements breed ignorance and hate and you pass that on to your children and promote segregation.

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 9:49 am

Open your eyes Amber. No one is playing the race card, but people like you think us that voice our OWN opinions are. What have you done for Antioch???. Are you out there with people from the original Take Back Antioch to clean up this city? Personally when they have been held I’ve had other commitments but contribute in other ways. I’m the eyes and ears of my street because I’m unemployed after I just worked 30 years in Corporate America. I email Ed A. when I see people that have dumped garbage or tagged a building and it’s cleaned up pretty fast. It’s the people that don’t care that do not make a difference. Section 8 is a huge contributing factor to Antioch’s demise. Because I’m home trying to find employment, I can’t believe what I see and a lot of people I’m assuming are not working class peeps. There is to much laziness in this city and it has become a dump because of that. These low life scumbags that do not contribute anything to our city except hard ache need to be bounced out of here on their heads. Go back to the ghetto of Oaktown, Richmond, Fremont, Hayward or where every you left. As I said in another post when I was a kid, Pittsburg was the “scary” place to go to, never heard a thing about Antioch until slum landlords or investors who do not care who they rent to bought up all the houses. They figure it’s our problem and not ours. Just say’in.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 4:11 pm

I’ve only lived in Antioch a month and have already done more than you. Your OWN opinion is that I’m ghetto and from an inner city because of what? Because I believe in human rights? Because I actually get off my ass to help those in need that none of you are willing to give a shit about? you’re a heartless person and it shows in your assumptions of others. But don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Most of the people on here are just like you because somehow you’ve managed to turn a news article about unknown or described people into an Aryan uproar.

And just so you know how stupid you are: I left Brentwood to come here stupid B!

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 8:13 pm

Amber why don’t you tone it down. Are you calling me a stupid B? So mature of you. Wow, SMDH.

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 8:28 pm

Amber, I just re-read your comment and I’m going to say this, YOU BELONG IN ANTIOCH WITH MOST OF THE GHETTO UNWANTED PEOPLE THAT MOVED HERE, SO SIT ON THAT AND SPIN AND GO “F” YOURSELF. Tell me dumb B how I caused an uproar by responding with my responses that are those of my own opinions? How am I heartless, you don’t even know me? I never said you were Ghetto before but you are telling me that you do more than me? How do you know how I contribute to the city????? Again SMDH idiot.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 8:54 pm

Well I’ve asked everyone here several times what anyone is actually doing to help with crime or bored teens and all anyone admitted to was snitching on garbage dumpers. You and others assumed that I’m not from this area and should “go back to where (I) came from”. You can me stupid and I’m one of the few people on here spewing logic rather than hatred. Go back and read the entire thread and see what I mean. Try replacing all the black with your own race and see how you feel about it then. Imagine if because of your skin you were to get pulled over constantly for no reason. People everywhere treat you like shite or are scared of you without knowing a thing about you. And after you’re done with that go back and read the original article and then tell me how you all got on the subject of race. We’ll see your intelligence in your next comment.

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 10:07 am

Hey Amber,

You’re welcome. I pay my taxes so that you can keep claiming those section 8 vouchers and liver a roof. My taxes help pay your EBT for the food you put on your ghetto table.

You’re welcome.

Now can you STFU so grown working people can have a productive debate on the real issue. And that “real issue” is about people like you.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 12:11 pm

See more ignorant judements. I am not ghetto nor on section 8. I have been paying taxes since I was a teen and continue to do so every year. I also help out the homeless and less fortunate, tutor and am active in the community. Where the fock are you out here? What the fock are you doing other than assuming some bs online and complaining? Fock you, you are more worthless than the people you complain about. I hope you become a victithe crimes you complain about so that maybe you can be motivated to get off your forklift fat ass and do something.

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 2:13 pm

You “hope that I become a victim of crime”???

Thanks for proving my point that YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Freak’n hypocrite.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 4:21 pm

you’re just an idiot trolling.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 12:34 pm

Ignorance repeated I see. I am not ghetto nor am I on section 8. I have been working and paying taxes for most of my life. What I don’t go around doing is discriminating against people based on their flesh tone or income level. What I do do is be a productive part of the community I live in. I donate to the homeless and less fortunate, tutor locally and participate in community events. Try getting up off your forklift fat asset and do something productive with your life. Ignorant fock!

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 2:14 pm

Yawn… another ghetto scumbag eek’n and ook’n about nothing.

Julio Jan 27, 2014 - 8:36 am

you are funny donna t. Some one is going to sue him for his snide comments to people.

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 11:48 am

Let your voices be heard. From the APD chief:

Barbara DuMont Jan 27, 2014 - 11:55 am

I saw this and just have to comment on it.

” What’s newer is a lot of youth from cities moving here without being trained to survive the new conditions. Can you imagine growing up in a real city and then moving here? There is nothing to do for kids other than school and then everyone’s surprised when they act out”

Survive new conditions? You mean acting like civilized humans? Why is it acceptable to hang out at the shopping center? Why is it acceptable to be disruptive and loud in a place of business? Why is it acceptable to be rude? If coming from a “real city” where this behavior is acceptable, then GO BACK. It is not the communities responsibility to provide entertainment for the kids. There are lots of things to do, including going home and doing chores.

Acting out? Seriously? These are out of control children that will grow into out of control adults.

SLW Jan 27, 2014 - 12:04 pm

Hey, how about work or do sports. When I was a kid there was way more less to do than now that is for sure and we sure where not out being rude and disrespectful. Parents do not encourage their kids to do anything these days and they are a product of their parenting. Back in the 70’s and 80’s I worked and we all thought of things to do that was fun rather than out committing crimes. This generations is LAZZZZZZZZZY with no morals or respect. It’s a crying shame.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 12:15 pm

Where are these sports and activites that don’t cost money. Help promote those to the teens because they aren’t aware of them.

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 12:21 pm

Yes, moving from areas with free after school care, activities, sports leagues, art, music and culture. We have nothing here but stores and they don’t provide enough employment for the adults in the area let alone our kids.
I still have yet to hear any of you comment on ways you help change the things you hate so much. Or provide any information on positive things people in need of work, volunteer work or after school activities can actually do or places to contact. So just keep complaining and maybe that will work. :/

donnt t Jan 27, 2014 - 12:36 pm

well for startes Amber do u relaly think our lousy Mayor & council members are going to do anythign we suggest? Also, i say get these section 8 landlord to pay a fee and that way there will be all kinds of money that can be used for after school activities…..as if that will ever happen? yes maybe in a perfect world but our Mayor and friends won’t do that and keep coming after us taxpayers for more cops as if that is really going to stop crime in Antioch!

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 3:17 pm

Why are you relying on others to do what you should be doing. You people are the lazy ones.

donna t Jan 27, 2014 - 5:32 pm

how are we being lazy Amber? the powers that be of Antioch are the ONLY people that can make these landlords pay their fair share…we pay taxes and that is all we can do….i think u need to get a life and wake up!

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 8:16 pm

Donna T, you are lazy because you rely on others to make a difference. This is not a problem you throw money at. You want kids to change then volunteer your time otherwise STFU.

donna t Jan 28, 2014 - 4:41 am

Amber u are lazy…don’t u call me lazy cuz u dont even know me!!!! i think YOU need to STFU!!!!!!!!! u disgust me and i am done reading these posts as i dont care what u have to say…all u want to do is blast people on here when we give our opinions! GOODBYE

Reginald Jamal Brown Jan 27, 2014 - 2:06 pm

Barbara,

Well said. I have no clue why these people from Richmond, Oakland, and other ghetto people think they can move to a different city and get everything for free then blame the civilized people if they get in trouble for raping, killing, shooting someone.

Flat out disgusting.

All they do is point the finger at anyone else but themselves because they are victims.

More like “professional victims” who know how to manipulate the rules and media to make themselves seem like the victim and not the person they murdered.

MB Jan 27, 2014 - 12:58 pm

Also when i lived there in Antioch 5 houses on my street were section 8 , ok no big deal.. It was a nice neighborhood… one house though had 9 foster kids,, Thought oh that;s nice, of them to care for so many, well until they came knocking at my door to say they were collecting money to go to Disneyland. I said my kids haven’t been, so why should I help you, unless you mow my lawn etc.. work for it.. they left pretty fast after that…

DOS Jan 27, 2014 - 3:30 pm

It sadden me that my culture is looked at in such a negative way, I am african american woman, I have four children and I also have a section 8 voucher, I moved to Antioch to get away from Richmond, and offer my children a better quality of life, no I dont have a college degree, however since moving to Antioch I have been able to establish my credit, obtained full time employment, my children our doing well in school, and I am over all blessed… I agree that majority of the trouble makers we see in the street appears to be african american however if you look on Meganlaw.com majority of the rappest and child molesters appear to be white men.. I knew that prior to moving to antioch however no place is perfect. Instead of us as a community (because that what we are rather we rent own or lease we all have the same rights), come together and create programs for our younger generations.. demand more from our city, summer jobs, after school programs, high school activities, winter balls, things to keep our babies busy, truth is that some parents may not be fit, may be a drug dealers or addit, may have sec 8 etc, but instead of talking about the children, what can you say your doing to make a difference, people move to antioch because its cheap, for lower income families rather you own or rent you are here because its what you can afford… Society is stuck on complaints and excuses from black, white, blue and purple people… Black children lack respect true, but I had little white girls call my 10 year daughter names such as stupid, big nose and many others and she turn around blew out the water academically, however I didn’t blame the child for that matter I didnt blame the parents either, I prayed for them because no matter who I point the fingure the enemy isn’t walking in the streets causing chaos, he below us causing us to hate each other and he’s the only one getting satisfaction… But to each and everyone instead of complaining Im praying, and I plan to make a difference in Antioch… God Bless xoxox….

amber Jan 27, 2014 - 8:26 pm

Glad you spoke up and that you and your family have the opportunity to enrich your lives.

Shelley Solis Jan 27, 2014 - 6:53 pm

Stop the Killing ! Jan 27, 2014 - 7:21 pm

I don’t think the comments coming from frustrated citizens are totally bias towards just section 8. Many people need assistance in some way. It is the people that use and abuse government entitlements that seem to be the ones having too much idle time on their hands. Maybe the people who live solely on the government should be required to assist in providing after school activities for youth along with other public needs that can be done close to their residence. The killing of each other seems so stupid. Are these young people growing up that dumb? Parents are failing so much. There needs to be some respect embedded in these kids by the parent or parents. When I was a teen I found any work I could from mowing lawns, pulling weeds, or working at a car wash. They need to bring back the child spanking. B.S. with time outs. This youth crime is out of control and frankly the government is not helping by giving all this free stuff and money to anyone who asks. Why would anyone even want a job when you can call on Obama to give it to you free. Eventually society will break down when we run out of free stuff. Then the real killing will start.Kids need to get educated, be accountable for their actions, work, and show respect, The only accomplishment this killing is doing is breaking mothers hearts. Know where your kids are at all times and keep them accountable. Make them work for a reward. Anyone and everyone who is able and sits at home all day collecting from Obamas handouts is the problem unless you get off your ass and contribute back by doing anything positive for your community.

Buy a Clue Jan 28, 2014 - 7:44 am

@STK. Did you just change your alias from sick and tired to this one? You should remarkably similar and equally ignorant.

What information do you have that no one else here seems to which suggests the perps are on public assistance? Get ahead of yourself or do you have something to share?

I’m not a huge fan of some of the things Obama has done, but please enlighten me. What government program has he put in place that gives government assistance just for the asking without any qualification? Be specific. Because I recall reading in the news of CUTS in government assistance. In fact a new farm bill passed through Congressional committee just last night which CUTS more from food stamps. Long term unemployment was cut right after Christmas affecting millions, including Veterans, with millions more due to take the hit in the coming weeks. Doesn’t exactly jive with your claims. Maybe you got sucked up as a Fox News drone and you just repeat what they tell you?

When I was growing up wages were such that one parent could work leaving one at home to better raise a generation and teach them values. But because our society and its policies are strangling the middle class wages it now takes 2 working parents just to get by. The negatives in instilled values is what results. Cause and effect. Wake up to the simple reasons for the degradation of our society.

But keep banging on those unions like they are the boogeyman. Because as the unions go, so does the middle class. They both rose together starting around WWII and they both are now disappearing. But folks like you can’t connect the dots.

Lots of people come in here to just rant. It’s sad they have to put their frustrations on one race or one social class of people instead of exercising intellectual honesty and looking at the root problems.

ECV Jan 28, 2014 - 10:09 pm

Buy a clue,

“Stop the Killing (STK)” and “Sick and Tired” are not only one in the same but is also “ECVsBrother” and we both know who that is.

“Stop the baby making free handouts to all these leeches & we will see our streets clean up over time.” -Sick and Tired

“Most people who carry the financial burden ( who work ) are prejudice statements against people who leach off the system (sic) -ECVsBrother

“A truly in need section 8 person who sees a section 8 leach should report it”.
-ECVsBrother

It looks like our little friend has developed a leech/leach problem!

Timbo Jan 27, 2014 - 9:59 pm

B-Wood and others you are always welcome to attend the Police Commissions Meeting on the 3rd Monday of every month at APD to express your views and join or make your own neighborhood watch program. The more people that watch out for each other the more the bad guys will want to stay away. Their hope is your fearful of them. Don’t be…stand up and let’s take our neighborhoods back. Our kids that we raise deserve a good home and a nice neighborhood to play outside in. Spread the word. And read DOS’s comment way down below. I know that not all section 8 folks are bad, rude, and take advantage of the system. As she says let’s come together and work together on this. Join Neighborhood Watch and please come to a one of the Police Commission meetings.

amber Jan 28, 2014 - 5:55 pm

How do you build a sense of community in a mixed area with all these racist? Is that ever covered at these meeting?

ECVsBrother Jan 28, 2014 - 6:38 pm

Amber, people are people and section 8 comments are not racist. Section 8 does not have a color, religion, or sexual preference. Most people who carry the financial burden ( who work ) are prejudice statements against people who leach off the system. Granted many section 8 are truly in need, but the rest are just a waste and make the truly needy look bad. Do you blame them? I don’t. A truly in need section 8 person who sees a section 8 leach should report it.

amber Jan 28, 2014 - 6:47 pm

Don’t come on here with an ECV title and look ignorant. I know a few of your brothers and know the organization wouldn’t want to look bad. Please go back and read ALL of the comments people have left. They are blaming not just section 8ers but mostly African Americans for the downfall of Antioch. This arguement is about class and color. Even though it never should have started because it’s an article about a wounded man and local crime, nothing more.

amber Jan 28, 2014 - 7:01 pm

Please read all the comments before commenting yourself. Many of these people are not just complaining about the “lower class” but blame African Americans for the increase in crime in Antioch.

ECV Jan 28, 2014 - 9:48 pm

Amber,

Don’t wast your time responding to the clown. He is confused and has his own issues.

Tammy Kightlinger Jan 27, 2014 - 10:27 pm

AGAIN stupid people the shooting at jack in the box has nothing to do with sec 8 u people r real dummys im sorry stop making what happen to my friend about ur sad lonely life a human was shot u f—— dummys and he had to get a bullet removed from his head why dont u pray for the family and get a f—— life

SLW Jan 28, 2014 - 10:42 pm

Amber, you are nothing but a shit disturber that keeps this post rolling throwing out the racial profiling and calling a lot of us racist. You must be black/African American? Just stop already.

Tammy, we all know your friend was shot and it has nothing to do with Section 8. However, this discussion was built from that post because upstanding citizen usually do not get shot up just sitting in their vans at Jack in the Box at 4pm. I’m sure most of us have compassion towards this individual and his family and the human life. However, if it’s crime related I’m sure it’s hard for some like me to feel sorry for them if they are doing something against the law. Why hasn’t APD release any info asking for witnesses etc. That right there pretty much says a lot and I bet most of us wouldn’t be that far off base with our assumptions.

Timbo:, I hear ya.

DOS: I can understand you wanting a better life for your children. You came here to give your children a better life aside from Richmond. Now I want to get out of here to give my children the same but stuck. So in the mean time I try to help to make a change in our community. Not all Section 8 tenants are bad or lazy, but from what I know I think most are. Sit back collect that check and have more kids to collect more money. That is what I have an issue with. The one time I need help and assistance from the system I can’t seem to get it and I’m a single unemployed mother that is struggling so I do not became another statics of homelessness. So I wonder how these people work the system and can remain on Sec. 8 and other assistance for so long. You mentioned Megan’s Law and a majority of the offenders being white. You could be right there. However those 290’s are not out shooting up people and robbing them and committing those types of crimes. Oh don’t even get me started on that subject. In closing what I try to always remember is that there is all kinds of TRASH, but we all bleed the same color and are children of God.

amber Jan 29, 2014 - 6:47 am

Thank you SingleLonelyWorthless, you just proved my point of you being racist. You assume my race because I defend human rights? You complain because I disagree with racial profilin? B, move yourself out of Antioch. No one needs you here. The reason you and your family can’t get section 8 is because it’s been closed in this area for years. Apply somewhere else and go away because you and your thoughts are a far bigger problem than any poor or ethnic person I know. You have shared nothing but hate and ignorance with your community. And to disregaurd rapist and child molesters when you claim someone actually reproduced with you? You should be ashamed as a mother and woman.

SLW Jan 29, 2014 - 11:06 am

As I said you are nothing but a POS that has to attack me or others for stating the truth or that of our own beliefs, and can’t seem to let go of that racial card. Why don’t you take yourself out of Antioch you stupid B. I will when I’m back on my feet because I want better for my kids. Call me what you want, just shows how immature and stupid you are, and yes I lowered myself to your level. My kids are well taken care of and I’m a GREAT mother and you don’t even know me so keep your fat trap shut. Assistance (Sec. 8) is closed around here because lazy ass people do not get off their asses and get jobs or even try for that matter and continue to milk the system. Of course it’s just not Antioch, the problem is rampid. If they did they would get kicked off it allowing others to benefit in a time of need. Don’t talk to me about working because I have 30 years working in Corporte America and work hard and have never used the system but only have paid into it, not sit home being lazy collecting checks for the more and more kids people have that they can’t afford, and maybe not deserve them. Maybe those are the ones that should not have kids. Oh and by the way, I’m not SingleLonelyWorthless person as you call me. By voicing my opinion how have I spewed hatred. You are a piece of work. You’ve started a battle with me by being the scumbag you are and started the name calling. My husband (still married) is a police office and for many years I’ve heard the stories and what officers have to deal with and the type of people that are trashy, which a majority are on Sec. 8 in the county he woiks in.

Lon Jan 29, 2014 - 4:36 am

If you guys are so much better than the “rift raft” and shady people then move out of Antioch. Move to Discovery Bay or Danville or Orinda or Alamo. I bet if you did, their message boards would start sounding like “I have to send my kids to another school, people from Antioch are moving into our nice communities” Another option is be part of the solution and stop just relying on city council and police to solve the problems. Stop looking to blame everyone else and ask yourself what can you do different. How many after school programs do you volunteer at to improve out community?

cs Jan 29, 2014 - 9:36 am

I hate Antioch, I moved away when I was in my twenties and haven’t looked back. I won’t even go visit my family. The can come to San Jose if they want to see me. Btw last week I went to work and forgot to lock up, when I, got home everything was still there. Try that in Antioch.

SLW Jan 29, 2014 - 11:15 am
