by ECT

On May 14th at 12:51 a.m., Livermore Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Chestnut Street and North I Street for a report of shots heard. Prior to this incident, dispatch had received multiple calls for service throughout the night regarding shots heard within the general vicinity of Chestnut Street and North I Street.

Officers arrived on scene and while canvassing the area, the officers saw an unknown male, approximately six feet tall, shirtless with blue jeans, walking east on Chestnut Street. The officers attempted to make contact with the male in order to rule out his involvement with the dispatched call for service.

While attempting to make contact, the unknown male continued walking east on Chestnut Street, eventually turning north onto North I Street where he quickly ducked behind a vehicle. As one of the officers approached the male and prepared to make contact, the male suddenly turned and without provocation fired multiple gunshots at the officer.

The officer avoided being struck by bullets as he ducked into his patrol vehicle and watched the unknown male run north on North I Street and east on Park Street. A perimeter was quickly established within the two block radius and the East County Tactical Team was activated in order to assist with an active yard to yard search for the suspect.

The officers on scene did not return gun fire toward the suspect and none of the officers or residents in the area were injured. This investigation is ongoing as the suspect is outstanding.
