Livermore Police Arrest Suspect in Granada Bowl Fatal Shooting

At around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, detectives from the Livermore Police Department arrested 27-year-old Roger Aleman Garcia.

Garcia was wanted in the shooting death of 28-year-old Antonio Vargas of Livermore at Granada Bowl (1620 Railroad Avenue) over the weekend.

According to Livermore Police, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, Vargas was with a group of friends at the bar area of Granada Bowl, when they got into a verbal altercation with Garcia.

The altercation led to a physical fight and ended with Garcia pulling a handgun and shooting Vargas and Vargas’s 28-year-old friend of Livermore. During the shooting, Garcia’s 30-year-old friend of Livermore was also struck by gunfire.

Vargas died at the scene. Police immediately rushed to the bowling alley and performed life-saving measures on the other two victims. They were rushed to a local hospital.

Garcia is also accused of shooting two other victims, who have non-life-threatening injuries, during a fight in the bar area of Granada Bowl on Saturday, July 16.

Garcia was arrested at a home in Lathrop after detectives developed information on his whereabouts. With assistance from the San Joaquin County Sheriff‘s Department SWAT team and Lathrop Police, a search warrant was served at the home. Garcia was arrested without incident.

Garcia was booked for murder and is now in custody at Santa Rita Jail.

“We want to thank the community for their support and assistance with the investigation,” said Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young. “From the beginning, our team has worked tirelessly to find the suspect and bring justice to the victim’s family. This level of violence is uncharacteristic of Livermore and we want residents to be rest assured that this violent criminal is off the streets.”

Livermore Police thanked law enforcement partners, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and City of Lathrop Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension of Garcia.

Police were not releasing any more information at this time as the case has been turned over to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
