Letter: Police Officers Association Says Lamar Thorpe Bad for Antioch

by ECT

The Antioch Police Officers Association came out over the weekend to reiterate their support of Antioch Mayor Sean Wright after Mayoral Candidate Lamar Thorpe claimed he is greater for law enforcement.

The Police Officers Association called his claim “Not True”.

Here is their letter:

Voters may have received a mailer from Mayor candidate Lamar Thorpe claiming he is for greater law enforcement efforts in Antioch. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

There is a reason the Antioch Police Officers’ Association has endorsed the re-election of Mayor Sean Wright and NOT Lamar Thorpe. Mr. Thorpe’s vision for the future of Antioch will INCREASE CRIME, increase our HOMELESS POPULATION and lead to further blight in our City. Here’s what we know:

Lamar Thorpe is the leader in the effort to DEFUND the Antioch Police, which would be devastating to our effort to fight crime in our community.

Lamar Thorpe initiated the proposal to turn the Executive Inn Motel on E. 18th and Cavallo into permanent housing for the homeless. This motel is 1/4 mile from 4 Antioch Schools and the Antioch Youth Sports Complex. We think this will only attract more crime to this vulnerable area.

Lamar Thorpe voted against accepting a Department of Justice yearly grant of $750,000 to return School Resource Officers to 6 Antioch schools where we need them most.

In contrast, Mayor Sean Wright has added 20+ new police officers (we’re now at 118) to the Antioch Police Department. He opposes Lamar Thorpe’s homeless motel and voted to accept the grant to further protect our students.

What happens this election is extremely important for the future of Antioch. Please join us in supporting Mayor Sean Wright’s re-election.

Thank you.

POA represents police officers, not the community. In it for themselves…nobody else

Duh. That is what an ‘association’ does. Antioch went to crap after the first major cuts to the police years ago. It has never recovered. Cut them again and you’ll be living in Beruit.

It’s actually Beirut, a city where I was born when my dad was an American diplomat working out of that city.

what major cuts were those to the police dept?

So you’ve expressed your opinion of APOA. Even if what you say is true, that proves nothing about either candidate.

The funniest thing about Coastrider711 comment…is that Lamar is ALSO about “himself,” and NOT the community. He is in it for HIMSELF, and NOBODY ELSE. …but you ALREADY know this, if not…then your in deniel!

Just where is deniel? Can’t locate it on any map. Google Earth can’t find it. Help me out

I wouldn’t vote for Thorpe if he paid me. I didn’t vote for him the first time. I smelled a rat miles away and I was right! I warned people!

Julio Oct 12, 2020 - 5:25 pm

Lamar Thorpe is bad for Antioch period!

@Truscott: what major cuts were those to the police dept?

If you live in Antioch and you’re defending or standing behind the current administration, you’re crazy as hell. Antioch is a dumping ground right about now and he’s doing nothing to change it. There’s not too many places that you can go that aren’t disgusting. The homeless have taken over, the roads are shit, you can’t even shop at Big Lots without smelling piss or stepping in shit. If you want it to change then change the narrative. It’s insane to see all this negativity, stop looking at ethnicity and look at your nasty ass city.

@Coastrider711 “POA represents police officers, not the community. In it for themselves…nobody else”

So where do you think police officers come from, the moon? No they come from the community they police. They see first hand what the rest of the community does not see, when we are asleep or at work. They are apart of the community; and I trust the police more than Candidate Lamar Thorpe or 90% of politicians for that matter.
