On Saturday, May 22, 2021, over 150 cars converged into several areas in Contra Costa County and engaged in several side shows.
The vehicles eventually took over the intersection of W 10th Street and Auto Center Drive. There were several vehicles doing donuts in the intersection and the parking lot of Arco Gas Station near the gas pumps.
There were over 100 vehicles and close to 200 spectators in this intersection, several blocking the path of patrol vehicles. The spectators set off fireworks and at times threw fireworks at patrol vehicles and pointed high powered lasers at officers.
Mutual aid was requested and several officers from Brentwood, Pittsburg and the Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in dispersing the crowd.
Several vehicles continued to drive recklessly, and a vehicle nearly ran over an officer who was on foot.
APD officers were able to stop a group of the vehicles with the help of the allied agencies. 20 subjects were issued citations and 21 vehicles were placed on 30-day tows from this scene.
The remaining group of vehicles entered the City of Brentwood where the vehicles took over the intersection of Lone Tree Way and HWY 4. Several vehicles made it into the City of Oakley and at approximately 1:09 AM, Oakley PD officers had bottles thrown at them from occupants from a vehicle that fled back into Antioch.
Antioch Officers located a vehicle that matched the description, and a traffic stop was attempted. The vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed onto Hillcrest Avenue where it lost control and crashed. The driver of that vehicle fled on foot and was caught by officers a short distance later. The subject was arrested for an outstanding warrant and his vehicle was towed for 30-days.
At approximately 1:32 AM, more than 50 vehicles took over the intersection of Buchanan Road and Somersville Road and started another side show. Officers responded to the area; however, the group continued the side show despite the presence of law enforcement. After several minutes, the vehicles eventually dispersed in several different directions.
At approximately 2:32 AM, APD officers responded into the City of Pittsburg to assist PPD with a large side show that resulted in several shots being fired by subjects in the side show.

It will only get worse with the new “no consequence” laws spreading around certain states and cities. Lawlessness… When officers are once again allowed to enforce the laws on the books, and the violators are actually prosecuted and held responsible, then and only then will we gain control of our neighborhoods again. Something every law abiding citizen desires.

The activity was centered in Antioch. What a surprise…
Kids need to find a girlfriend or something. I get sleepy by 9pm. The kids are bored.
This stuff is way out of hand. We need auto confiscation and auction of any vehicle involved in a side show. Enhanced charges for all those involved who attempt to assault or vandalize police responders. And jail time for anyone caught driving in a side show. We are too soft on crime and those punks think of law enforcement as a joke to be fought against.
Why aren’t these people getting arrested for assault with deadly weapons? If anyone got in their way they have proven they will just as soon run them over. As a very long time resident of Antioch, it seems that all the shootings, sideshows, etc. have escalated since the beginning of this year. Lamar, is there anything you wish to comment on? Of course not!!!! Your fellow council member goes to the sideshows. If someone told me this would be happening in Antioch, I wouldn’t have believed it. I feel like I’m living in the Old West. No one is held accountable for all these horrible actions.
Arrest the spectators as well. Don’t give anyone “citations” … just have their vehicles towed and arrest the drivers. Don’t let them out of jail.
What are these law enforcement using for brains? You get 150 cars blocking traffic and causing havoc and what do they d, call reinforcement from other cities and the scumbags just move to the city these reinforcements come from. What about arranging for some BIG TANKS to be available with drivers to just ram these idiots off the roads! They will abandon their cars and take off like bats out of hell. Then the cars should be confiscated .. whatever is left of them!
This is the time for this city “Government” to call one of these “Special Meetings” to combat this in the city. They can bring up and vote on the new City Ordinance that states that “ALL” involved WILL receive an additional CITY fine up to 4 times that of the State Code, up to 3 times of impoundment time at the owners cost and can impose a mandatory work community service time. But, guess non of them bother to READ what cities can and cannot do. They seem to just follow the herd. Just like the old Rock Opera “Tommy”, deaf, dumb and blind! Just play your pinball like nothing else MATTERS.
Going to Home Depot in the morning. I’ll buy ten pounds of nails. Give me ten minutes notice of where they are and what direction you’ll push them.. 4 tires and a tow bill will correct the issue.

James, I think it will lead to what you’re proposing! So far, what the law enforcement people have been doing simply is not working. The cops managed to arrest just ONE person from the bunch which endangered the public Saturday night at West 10th and Auto Center Drive! If you look at that intersection from the air, they could have had the police cruisers simultaneously block that intersection with vehicles close together half a block from the center and those jerks couldn’t get away. They would be trapped. Giving the ones they caught citations is idiotic! What in hell is wrong with our cops from Antioch and adjoining cities? Plan a strategy for God’s sake!
The police should shoot out the tires! Arrest the shitbags and have the vehicles towed away. Have them sold and the profits donated to the police departments!
That gas station at Auto center and E.10th St may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but it is a magnet for lowlife idiots at all times of the day and night. The only reason to go there is pure desperation. And, now, East County is the hotbed of sideshow nonsense, making that station even more dangerous. That station needs to be closed. Now

I was at APD on Monday afternoon on a personal matter ( I think I was a victim of a sideshow participant/attendee who later tore through my neighborhood and struck my parked car) and there was a long line of people trying to get APD to release their vehicles from impound. All were impounded on sideshow night and all claimed that they WEREN’T EVEN THERE! It was pathetic and hilarious at the same time
Wow! Those who were there should have been immediately arrested for taking part in these side shows. Don’t tell me the cops missed THAT opportunity? Those vehicles should NEVER EVER be released. Either have the city junk them or resell them and apply the profits to police business, like getting extra food and Kevlar vests for the K9 unit.
The police should monitor intersections from a chopper and see where people are beginning to gather. This should be done over Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, Pittsburg. Then have them zoom in as scumbags start to gather with their cars ready to start their shitty activities. Head them off at the pass!
