Between June 18-24, the Antioch Police Department had 1,641 calls for service which netted 59 arrests according to Antioch City Manager Steve Duran.
Of those arrests, 18 were felony, 41 misdemeanor along with 2 DUI’s. Here is a recap of events provided in the City Manager, Steve Durans, weekly report.
Traffic Enforcement Blitz Nets 70 Tickets
On the morning of 6/23/2015, Traffic Motor Officer Solari worked with 3 CHP Motor Officers addressing traffic issues throughout the city. The team worked for approximately 5 hours and issued a total of 70 Hazardous Moving Violations. The majority of the citations were issued on Gentrytown Drive alone.
Disturbance Leads to Warrant Arrest
On 6/18/15 at 10:19 pm, Officers were dispatched to 3016 Greenhall Way a large group gathering for the purposes of fighting. Upon officers’ arrival, they located 21 year old Johnay Ferguson, who was belligerent and screaming. Ferguson said that she was jumped by unknown subjects, but was otherwise uncooperative. She was found to have a misdemeanor warrant out of Manteca for petty theft. She was arrested and booked at the county jail.
Burglary In Progress Leads to Arrest
On 6/19/2015 at 7:23 am, officers were dispatched to 1701 Mahogany Way after witnesses called dispatch after seeing the resident, 52 year old Navaeh Zaid, jump a shared fence into the balcony area of another home. The resident of the home had recently passed away and the premises was under the care of a granddaughter. Witnesses reported seeing Zaid enter into the residence and then remove items and take them to her own home. When officers arrived, they found Zaid in the victim’s apartment preparing to leave with more items. All items were recovered and Zaid was booked at the county jail.
Man Threatens Jack in the Box Employee With Knife, Booked on Assault Charges
On 6/19/2015 at 2:38 pm, officers responded to the report of a man threatening an employee with a knife at the Jack in the Box restaurant at 2505 “A” St. The victim, employee of the Jack in the Box, reported being in the parking lot taking out the trash. The suspect approached her while holding a large knife in his hand. She recognized him as a local transient later identified as 37 year old Joseph Lopez.
Lopez was standing approximately 5 feet away from her as he lunged towards her holding a knife in an aggressive manner. Lopez did not say anything during the assault. Fearing Lopez was trying to stab her, she immediately ran into the store and told her manager. Lopez was still on scene when officers arrived and discarded the knife when he saw them arrive. When questioned, Lopez stated he was just trying to get money for a hamburger. Lopez was booked at the county jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery.
Reckless Driving Call Leads to DUI Arrest
On 6/19/2015 at 4:19 pm, both Brentwood and Oakley were getting calls of a reckless vehicle in their cities. Shortly after we received a call at Willow Ave. at Oakley Road a solo vehicle into a power line. This vehicle matched the description of that reported in Brentwood and Oakley. Upon officers’arrival, they found the driver, 34 year old Joseph McClanahan, on scene. McClanahan displayed symptoms of being under the influence. Officers learned he had struck two vehicles in the city of Oakley prior to the collision in Antioch. McClanahan suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
A blood tech was called to the hospital to collect a blood sample. McClanahan was later released from custody pending the results of the blood sample.
Traffic Stop Leads to Warrant Arrest
On 6/19/2015 at 10:19 pm, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle that was associated with street racers as it left the Auto Center Dr. Lowes parking lot. The driver pulled into the Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot across the street and stopped. A passenger in the vehicle, 30 year old Thomas Gardner, was determined to have an outstanding felony arrest warrant charging vehicle theft. He was arrested without incident and transported and booked at the county jail.
Man Arrested After Police Locate 1,000 Marijuana Plants
On 6/21/2015 at 10:53 pm, officers responded to 808 Buttonwood Ct. on the report of a possible burglary in progress. Callers advised hearing glass break and individuals in the rear of the home.
When officers arrived, they located a broken rear window and suspected people might be inside the home. Officers observed a vehicle arrive at the location and quickly flee. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and contacted the driver, 42 year old Shaohui Tan. Tan claimed he was lost and was just driving through the area. Officers made entry into the home and located a large marijuana grow and approximately (12) 30 gallon trash bags containing trimmed product. There were approximately
1,000 plants in various stages of development. Tan had the keys to the home in his pocket. He was placed under arrest and later booked at the county jail.
Traffic Stop Nets Warrant Arrest
On 6/22/2015 at 8:55 am, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Park Lane near “C” St. During the stop, the officer conducted a warrant check on a passenger, 36 year old Barton Ramsey. Ramsey had an outstanding no bail arrest warrant charging possession of a controlled substance and failure to comply with a work release program. Ramsey was arrested and later booked at the county jail.
Female Arrested After Trying to Sell Stolen Vehicle
On 6/22/2015 at 9:44 am, CHP contacted Antioch PD dispatch and advised they had received a call from a subject who was trying to buy a 2015 Toyota Tundra from another person for $8,000.00 dollars. CHP had determined the Toyota was stolen. The seller was reported to be in the area of Mahogany Way and Auto Center Dr. Officers responded to the area and located a 2013 Toyota Tundra traveling on Sycamore Dr. at Lemontree Way. Officers initiated a stop on the vehicle on “L” St. at the S.R. HWY. 4 on ramp. Officers determined the Tundra was the stolen vehicle and had the incorrect license plates on it, which belonged to a 2013 Toyota Tundra. The driver, 30 year old Marlaina Vegas, was arrested and later booked at the county jail. The vehicle was reported stolen last February from the Hilltop Toyota dealership in Richmond.
Man Arrested on $50k Warrant
On 6/22/2015 at 3:03 pm, officers saw 30 year old Demarcus Whitner walking on W.10th St. near “K” St. A warrant check revealed Whitner had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court when subpoenaed. The bail on the warrant was $50,000. Whitner was taken into custody without incident and booked at the county jail.
14-Year-Old Arrested After trying to Steal Shoes at McDonalds
On 6/22/2015 at 9:29 pm, officers responded to the report of a group of girls trying to rob a 14 year old girl inside the McDonald’s Restaurant at 4440 Lone Tree Way. The girls were attempting to steal the victim’s shoes. The girls were unsuccessful. As officers arrived, the group fled. Police were able to detain several members of the group. The victim identified a 14 year old girl from Oakland as the person who
stole a bracelet from her and tried to pull her shoes off.. The 14 year old girl was taken into custody and later booked at juvenile hall. The victim sustained minor scratches to her wrist where the bracelet had been removed but was otherwise uninjured.
Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
On 6/23/2015 at 5:49 am, an officer contacted 22 year old Jason Warren in Heidorn Park on Deerspring way. A records check indicated Warren had an outstanding arrest warrant for hit and run. He was arrested without incident and booked at the county jail.
Four Arrested After Robbery at Gunpoint
On 6/23/2015 at 11:30 pm, dispatch received a call of a robbery on Mokelumne Ct. The victim reported he was robbed at gunpoint in his driveway. The vehicle and suspect descriptions matched that of an attempted armed robbery that occurred in Brentwood approximately 30 minutes earlier. An officer saw the suspect which turned its lights off and made several evasive moves attempting to evade the officer.
One of these evasive moves was to turn down Walton Ln. which is a dead end street. There were also several other units in the area on an unrelated traffic accident. Those units were able to quickly respond to Walton Ln. and assist in a high risk stop.
The suspects were all detained without incident. The suspects were identified as 22 year old James Jones, 18 year old Marrico Williams, 20 year old Melvin Mason and a 17 year old male juvenile.
Brentwood PD brought their victim to Walton Ln. for an infield line up. The victim identified the car and Jones as being involved in that attempted robbery.
The Antioch victim was brought to the location for an infield lineup and identified all four suspects as the people who robbed him. A search for any firearms was conducted along their path of travel with negative results.
All of the adult suspects were taken into custody and later booked at the county jail. The juvenile suspect was arrested and booked at juvenile hall. Neither victim was injured.
Frantic Phone Call Leads to Warrant Arrest
On 6/24/2015 at 5:57 pm, officers were dispatched to a wireless 911 call with a frantic female on that line, which was ultimately tracked to a location on Sparrow Ct. When they arrived, officers contacted 18 year old Trevon Davis and a 19 year old female. Both denied there was any sort of problem. Davis was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest on the charges of possession of stolen property and assault likely to cause great bodily injury. He was taken into custody without incident and booked at the county jail.
Man Arrested With 2 Outstanding Warrants
On 6/24/2015 at 10:13 pm, an officer noticed 28 year old Jacob Broussard walking in the 1800 block of Auto Center Dr. The officer was aware Broussard had 2 outstanding arrest warrants charging possession of a controlled substance, theft and trespassing. Broussard was arrested without incident and issued a new court date on the warrants.
Man Hits Subject with Bicycle Handle Bars, Arrested on Assault Charges
On 6/24/2015 at 7:38 am, officers responded to the City Park at 1000 “A” St. on the report of a subject holding his head and bleeding. When officers arrived, they located a 30 year old male victim who had a large laceration on his head. He stated Edward Crandell woke him up near the bathrooms in the City Park this morning and then struck him in the head with handle bars from a bicycle. According to the victim, Crandell believed he stole property from him when Crandell was arrested a few days earlier. Edward Crandell, 33 years old, was located nearby and taken into custody without incident. He admitted to contacting the victim and confronting him about his missing property. Crandell claimed he punched the victim in the face, but denied ever hitting him with bicycle handle bars. Crandell was arrested and later booked at the county jail on the charge of felony assault with an object likely to cause serious injury. The handle bars were located in the park. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated and later released with several staples in his head to close the wound.
Man Arrested for Burglary at Delta Breeze Laundry
On 6/24/2015 at 8:45 am, officers responded to Delta Breeze Laundry at 1092 Sycamore Dr. The owner received a call at home from a neighboring business that someone had broken into the office of the business. When officers arrived, they met the owner and the found the front door to the business and office were forced open. The office was ransacked and several items were found to be stolen. A review of surveillance footage revealed a male known to the officers as 44 year old Marcus Dukes and another unknown suspect committed the burglary. Dukes was located in the area a short time later and taken into custody without incident. He denied any involvement in the crime. He was booked at the police department and later transported to the county jail.
