Harper Endorsed by Fellow Councilmembers Mary Helen Rocha and Tony Tiscareno

by ECT

A candidate for District 3 Supervisor, Antioch Mayor Wade Harper has received endorsements from fellow city councilmembers Mary Helen Rocha and Tony Tiscareno.

Rocha is putting her support behind Harper. She is the longest serving of the current Antioch city council and first Hispanic mayor of Antioch (1996-2000). Rocha is very knowledgeable of the nonprofit world and has dedicated her life to supporting Contra Costa County families. She has been a community liaison for Brighter Beginnings, with the Mary Rocha Child Development Center named in her honor. She serves on the board of directors for Tri-Delta Transit and Delta Diablo Sanitation District with Harper.

“I am supporting my mayor because he has done a great job bringing our city together to address many of the problems that we face. Wade is the most experienced candidate in the race. As a directly elected mayor and 24-year veteran police officer, he is the strongest candidate to tackle the challenges that persist in the county,” said Rocha.

Tiscareno 2Councilman Tony Tiscareno has also placed his support behind Mayor Harper. Tiscareno was appointed to city council in 2012 to fill Harper’s unexpired term on the council when Harper won the race for mayor. Tiscareno is a 33-year retired steelworker, and former political Director for the Contra Costa Labor Council. In the 1990s, Tiscareno owned a small business trading sports cards. The real estate agent is a 46-year resident of Antioch.

“What stands out about Wade is he cares about people. I share Wade’s commitment to stand up for hard-working people when we returned city employees back to a full-time work week after 5½ years of work furloughs,” said Tiscareno. “I am honored to stand with Wade for Supervisor and support his campaign. He will make a great supervisor.”

When Harper was elected as mayor he led the city council in team-building and strategic planning. He also led the charge in authorizing violent crime suppression teams while also spearheading the Measure C campaign to hire more police. (Measure C is bringing in more than $5 million per year to hire police officers, code enforcement officers and blight reduction).

Harper is chair of Delta Diablo Sanitation and a member of the board of directors for Tri-Delta Transit. In the past, he has served on the Transplan, Highway 4 Bypass/Ebart and East Contra Costa Regional Fee and Finance Authority committees. Harper was also elected serve as chair of the Contra Costa County Conference of mayors.

Harper said, “Today on my birthday I am honored to have key support from my fellow councilmembers. I look forward to bringing my leadership to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. The community deserves integrity, excellence and hard work from their elected officials. I will work with the current supervisors and community to find solutions to problems and add value to the community.” Harper also added that he is “ready to work on the many issues facing our community such as public safety, jobs, protecting our Delta, healthcare and transportation to name a few.”

All the endorsements in the world won’t help this guy get elected.

Wade Harper Mar 7, 2016 - 9:35 am

Hi Jim, endorsements are good, especially when you have those who know you closely and are still willing to endorse. I will not solely rely on endorsements. I will be out in the community speaking to voters about why I believe I am the best candidate to address the issues that we face in the county. Antioch needs a strong advocate. This is what I have done in the past two elections that I have won.

These endorsements say more about Monica Wilson than they do Wade Harper. Appears no one on the Antioch City Council is endorsing Wilson with Ogorchuck supporting Steve Barr. Wade Harper is now taking credit for Measure C? If I remember correctly, the council did nothing to help crime until the community was set to run all of them out of office. They did not lead, they reacted to the community who led the charge to fight crime.

Go Wade!!!!! Two good endorsements to announce that actually mean something. I am sick of reading Doug Hardcastles endorsements of people I have never head of. Keep letting the doubters be negative and keep doing your thing. People refuse to admit Antioch is getting better and crime is down.

Two more crooked politicians endorsing another crooked politician. Get them out of here, we want our city of Antioch back

Wade Harper Mar 7, 2016 - 9:42 am

Thank you for the concern Allison. Let me phrase it in a better way. Will I continue to serve with excellence and integrity as I have done in the past. Yes I Will. I served in Law Enforcement for 24 years and have passed several background checks as I have promoted through the ranks. I am currently teaching Law Enforcement Careers at Antioch High School. I am raising up the next generation of police officers. I am teaching them about ethical decision-making. I endeavor to lead by example. I will continue to lead with excellence and integrity, as I have done in the past. I have pledged in this race for Contra Costa County Supervisor not to attack anyone’s character, but to stick to the issues. If we all can commit to this, we will be a great example for our media community. Thanks,

Hey Wade,

Good to know you have the time and energy when your political agendas are threatened. We citizens of Antioch are threatened with gangs, rapists, murderers, and child molesters with a higher propensity of becoming a victim compared to all CCC cities! Yet no action from you about it.

I’ve called you out several times about your lack of response when it comes to the amount of crime we have to endure, yet, as always, you’ve had nothing to say.

Typical action, or lack there of, from you, Wade.

EastCountyToday Mar 7, 2016 - 1:15 pm

Allison,

Can you provide a specific example of Mayor Harper or anyone else on the council being arrested or charged for criminal activity. Can you share a specific vote or action they took that would make them appear to be crooked?

You may not like what they do, but it also does not mean they are “cooked politicians.”

Accepting campaign contributions from Seeno is a conflict of interest with Antioch homeowners. Being a bought Mayor should be a criminal act. Crime is up not down. You just fabricate the numbers.

Gary, I have lived in Antioch 50 years and it is NOT getting better.

Wade, you are fooling yourself. Antioch residents have had enough of you, other politicians know you aren’t capable of a higher seat and NOBODY outside of Antioch would ever vote you into a district seat. Who the bell would vote for you? Sorry, but it’s the truth. Save your money and time and stick with anything outside of politics. You don’t listen well and you aren’t qualified. In dact you are probably the most detested politician in east county. Listen now or let the voters spank you in June. Your choice.

Wade Harper Mar 8, 2016 - 3:10 am

I don’t mind running as an underdog and “leaving it all on the field,” letting the voters decide.

RJB! Mar 8, 2016 - 6:31 am

Still no answer about the crime in Antioch, Wade?

How about the two tax increases you bamboozled the citizens into approving, yet crime is still high and we are nowhere near having the correct number of police staff before you were mayor.

You’re as slick as they come, Wade.

Interesting how you can post the above at 3 a.m. If you half as much effort into fighting crime and your so called campaign of “zero tolerance for crime” then maybe our quality of life will be slightly better.

But then again and as usual it’s all crickets on your end.

Let the voters decide? Lol

Thanks for nothing, Wade.

Allison Gomez Mar 8, 2016 - 9:12 am

Exactly RJB, he just wants to make himself feel worthy. We are sick of his antics in Antioch, we are smarter and wiser this time around. We will make sure this guy doesn’t get elected to that seat. He is a liar with false promises. Antioch’s crime is still terrible. Homeless is a huge part. We have most homeless in Contra Costa County. Have you been to the Sommersville Car Wash, where the old CVS used to be off Delta Fair Blvd? It’s disgusting how bad they let it become! We are tired of our city being over taken by these thugs and gang bangers and free loaders. We want Antioch back and we will fight for it!

Gary W Mar 8, 2016 - 10:31 am

It’s very difficult for voters to trust an individual running for higher elected office when your constituents feel you have been a complete failure at the local level.

Conventional wisdom dictates “why should I reward you with a larger salary, more political power, and the ability (or inability) to influence change in ALL of east county when after four years in office you have failed to keep the promises you made during your mayoral campaign and as a result, the residents of Antioch feel less safe than ever before?”

Politicians should learn to NEVER make campaign promises you have no intention to keep, when elected, and then be surprised by the vitriol you receive from angry voters for not keeping your word!

Just saying!
