Friends of Oakley: Now Collecting Food and Toys

by Administrator

I wanted to bring attention to the Friends of Oakley who will forever have a lasting impact on me during the holiday season for the amount of people they helped last December by announcing there will be 18 barrels located around Oakley to begin the collection of non-perishable food items for Christmas dinner baskets. This year, they filled up their 300 spots quickly and now the real mission begins as they are out to collect as much canned goods and toys as possible. The picture above highlights the end result of what is collected.

According to Kevin Romick, barrels are located in the following locations:

  • Delta Vista Middle School
  • Gehringer Elementary School
  • Iron House Elementary School
  • Laurel Elementary School
  • Oakley Elementary School
  • O’Hara Park Middle School
  • Vintage Parkway Elementary School
  • OUESD Education Center, Room 2
  • City Hall (Front Desk and Engineering/Permits)
  • Fire Station #93
  • Bank of the West
  • ECC Bank
  • Oakley Police Department
  • Mike Murray Insurance – State Farm
  • Mike’s Beef and Brew
  • Black Bear Diner
  • Diamond Hills
  • Eagle City Community Room

Didn’t they get robbed last year? They should hire a security firm going forward.
