Freshman Becomes First Female Wrestler to Become an NCS Champion

by ECT

Deer Valley High School freshman Jade Estrada became the first female wrestler in school history last week to become an NCS Champion.

Rich Madrigal, Head Wrestling Coach of Deer Valley High School, stated Estrada won in the third round by pin.

The Deer Valley High School Wrestling Team competed at the Girls NCS at Albany High School with four female wrestlers who brought home 2 medals according to Madrigal.

Sophomore Corina Barnes placed 5th at the 131 lb weight class and freshman Jade Estrada brought home DVHS’s first girls NCS Title at 160 lbs.

Madrigal called the results a very exciting and proud night for the DVHS Girls wrestling team. The other two girl wrestlers who competed but did not place were Senior Rachel Wilson and Sophomore Katelyn Pham.
