Free Thanksgiving Dinner-to-go in Pittsburg

November 24, 2020 – Pittsburg, CASt. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa County, SVdP, and Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa, LFCC, are partnering to feed hungry neighbors this Thanksgiving. The nonprofit organizations are celebrating Thanksgiving with our neighbors by hosting a FREE Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, 11/26 at the St. Vincent de Paul/Loaves and Fishes Dining Room in Pittsburg.

On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, the first 300 guests at the SVDP/LFCC Free Dining Room will receive a free, hot Thanksgiving dinner, with all the trimmings, in a  to-go container.

The St. Vincent de Paul/Loaves and Fishes free dining room is located at 1415 Simpson Ct. in Pittsburg. The Thanksgiving meal is being generously prepared by Loaves and Fishes long time Chef James Porter. SVdP staff and volunteers will be serving the to-go dinners, hot chocolate, and spreading holiday cheer in a safe, socially distance manner.

St. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa County and Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa are 501(c)(3) non-profits providing services to support our most vulnerable residents. Both organizations have been on the front lines helping individuals who have been affected by the pandemic. The demand on their services has grown significantly beyond their normal service.

The two organizations are helping people with food, shelter and financial hardships. SVdP has a density of services at the SVDP Family Resource Center in Pittsburg. Additionally, SVdP operates 29 branches throughout the county and 3 Thrift Stores. Services at the SVdP Family Resource Center include the Free Dining Room, (in partnership with Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa), the RotaCare Pittsburg Free Medical Clinic at St. Vincent de Paul, the Free Dental Clinic, (in partnership with Dentists On Wheels), the Free Food Pantry, Free Auto Assistance Program and the Workforce Development Program – providing employment & training to those with barriers to employment.  SVdP’s food distributions in Contra Costa County have increased by over 100% since March.

Loaves and Fishes operates 5 dining rooms throughout the county where they serve hot meals to anyone in need. Since the pandemic Loaves and Fishes have been serving over 6,000 meals a week.  This is over 70% of their normal meal count. Loaves and Fishes “Nourishes Lives” in the Contra Costa by serving hot meals “to-go”and pre-filled bags with food pantry items from their 5 dining sites. They recently crossed the milestone of 5 million meals served since opening.
