Former Trustee: Motts and Burkholder for Antioch School Board

by ECT

To the Editor,

I am writing to share my enthusiastic support for Joy Motts and Mike Burkholder, for candidates for the Antioch School Board. Antioch is so fortunate to have two candidates of this caliber, dedication, and profound knowledge and ability to lead the District in a positive direction.

Ms. Motts, as a former School Board member, was instrumental in implementing the hugely successful secondary academies and linked learning. She was present and supported so many of each school’s activities, events, administrative and staff endeavors.

More importantly and because of the present Board’s apparent ineptitude, once elected she will provide the strong and equitable leadership that will restore trust in the Board. Administrative and instructional staff trust her and believe in her.

I urge you to vote for Joy Motts. She is the only hope to establish a positive and effective alliance with all key personnel in Antioch School District and will lead the District to the success that Antioch children deserve.

Also urge support for Mike Burkholder.

I have had the privilege of getting to know Mike Burkholder, first through his online newspaper, East County Today and then, through our conversations where I learned of his caring for the Antioch community and the support of local schools.

Mike’s loyalty to Antioch lies in his efforts to improve the community and his support of the schools. He has young children that attend Carmen Dragon and Orchard Park. He has stated that he and his family are “here for the long run”.

Mike is a keen and respectful listener and is open to multiple points of view before he determines what is the right thing to do. He is also present in the community and understands issues that Antioch faces.

I fully support his candidacy for the Antioch Unified School Board. He will add a voice of reason to a Board that, presently, is in great need of sound judgment.

Administration and teachers want anyone but Fernando Navarro and Alonzo Terry. Both have been horrible appointments and have caused nothing but grief to the District and many teachers. I will be casting my vote for anyone but those two. Hopefully Debra Vinson can also be recalled for her behavior.

The public has to get this right because the AUSD has become the butt of all jokes when it comes to school districts. It’s embarrassing what progress was being made has all been destroyed. No wonder why teachers continue to leave and parents pull their kids from the District.

Translation: you mean the unions. When you say the district, the administration and the teachers. You mean the unions. Of course you don’t want Navarro and Terry…these two courageous men are defenders of the bottom line and staunchly opposed to waste and mismanagement. And now you want to throw Vinson overboard too?
Hmmm lets look at those optics. Your advocating for a clean sweep of any ethnic representation (considering that over half of the student body is minority ) and opposition so you can get the feeding trough going up again.
NOT ON. THIS. VOTERS WATCH
and neither should you the readers.
