Former Pleasanton Little League President Arrested for Embezzlement

by ECT

Today, on February 5, 2015, officers and detectives from the Pleasanton Police Department served an arrest warrant on Pleasanton resident, Jeremy Cardera (d.o.b. 2/25/79), This was the culmination of a month long investigation where Cardera was suspected of embezzling over $20,000 from the Pleasanton Little League when he was the president.

On December 29, 2014 officers initiated an investigation of embezzlement of $20,708.91 from the accounts of the Pleasanton American Little League. The perpetrator was identified as the president of the league, Mr. Cardera. When Pleasanton American Little League representatives approached Cardera regarding the suspicious transactions to the little league account he quickly resigned his position as the little league president.

Cardera had even attempted to repay the league for the money he had spent by writing a personal check to Pleasanton American Little League which had insufficient funds for the amount of the payment.

Through the investigation it was discovered Cardera had paid for his family to go on a vacation to Southern California by using money stolen from the little league’s bank accounts. His vacation was verified through bank statements, hotel reservation records, as well as social media photographs he posted of him and his family on vacation.

Further investigation revealed Cardera had conducted cash withdrawals from both an ATM machine and counter withdrawals from bank branch locations. A majority of the withdrawals from the little league’s account were determined to have occurred the same day he deposited money into his personal bank account.

In most cases the amount withdrawn from the Pleasanton American Little League account was the same as the deposits into Cardera’s personal account.

Cardera is currently booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin for the charge of 503 PC, embezzlement and 476a PC, passing a “non-sufficient funds” check.
