Firefighters Save Antioch Home in Late Night Blaze

by ECT

At 11:24 pm Saturday night, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters rushed to 1300 Putnam St. in Antioch after a reported residential fire. Upon arrival, their quick actions saved the home.

No cause has yet been determined about how the fire started, but it began in a pile of brush that worked its way into tall palm trees with embers flying around the neighborhood. The blaze quickly caught a fence on fire which then shot up the house and onto the roof.

Crews entered the home to ensure the fire did not spread and did a perimeter search to ensure embers did not cause secondary fires in the area.

According to the Captain on scene, if they had not got on scene when they did, he said the house may have gone up as the roof was starting to catch fire–but that they prevented it from spreading and more importantly, prevented it from getting into the attic. Crews were on scene for 1-hour and 3-minutes.

An Antioch Police Officer stated that upon his arrival, the palm trees and fence were going pretty good before firefighters extinguished them.
