At 10:42 am Saturday, Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report of a commercial structure fire at the Antioch Animal Services located at 300 L Street in Antioch.
Firefighters arrived on scene to locate a dryer fire that was extinguished quickly.
Antioch Animal Service stated to social media that no persons or animals were harmed and they will be closed to the public until further notice. In response, Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation pulled 20 dogs and 5 cats from Antioch Animal Services today due to smoke/odor issues from the fire.
Meanwhile, a kind gesture from the community came when Paul Spangenberg of Speed Clean Laundry on E. 18th offered to wash and dry anything Animal Services needed until their equipment is fixed or replaced.
Fire crews remained on scene for roughly 90-minutes.
Here is a note from Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando:
This morning at approximately 10:40 AM, we experienced a small fire in an industrial dryer in Animal Services.
All of our staff and animals are fine and uninjured. We would like to thank Con Fire for their expedient response!
The Animal Shelter will be closed the remainder of the day while we clean up and tend to our four legged friends!
Sincerely,
Chief Allan Cantando
