Firefighters Battle Vegetation Fire Along Highway 4 in Pittsburg

by ECT

At approximently 9:50 am Sunday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a vegetation fire along eastbound Highway 4 between Bailey and San Marco in the City of Pittsburg.

According to the initial dispatch, the fire was reported to be approximently 200 feet in size, then grew to the size of a football field and by the time firefighters arrived on scene, it was approximently 1.5 acres.

Battalion 8 requested CHP to create a traffic break due to smoke going across Highway 4 before ultimately requesting they shut down the No. 4 lane at San Marco so crews could work along the Highway to knock down the fire.

The new construction above the vegetation fire was not impacted due to a sound wall.

By 10:06 am, crews stated they knocked down the head of the fire and were in mop up. Fire was estimated at 3.5 acres in size.
