Firefighters Battle Two-Alarm Fire in Vacant Antioch Downtown Building

by ECT

At 3:14 am, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to a report of a commercial fire in downtown Antioch Friday in the Rivertown District.

The fire was located at a vacant building on 2nd Street near the Nick Rodriguez Community Center. Firefighters had trouble locating the fire due to callers providing multiple locations and lots of smoke.

IMG_1245A second alarm was then called after firefighters located a red-tag on the building and access was not safe for firefighters to enter and they would be fighting the fire from the outside.

According to CONFIRE spokesperson Robert Marshall, the fire caused a partial roof collapse while firefighters were able to save two neighboring buildings from daamge.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
