At 5:32 pm Monday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to two-alarm fire at a Pittsburg condominium complex on Meadowbrook Ave.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and flames showing and immediately called for a second-alarm response. The flames were shooting out the first and second floor of the complex

Firefighters did limit the damage to one unit completely destroyed with two neighboring units receiving smoke damage and structure damage as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

According to Contra Costa Country Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Robert Marshall, the incident is still under investigation, however, they are looking into reports of multiple squatters inside the unit prior to the fire starting. Pittsburg Police and American Medical Response were on scene.

Witnesses stated seeing four-to-five people running away from the unit shortly before the fire began.

Fire crews remained on scene for 4-hours and 16-minutes.
