On Thursday, Contra Costa County Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a column of smoke along Highway 4 on the City of Antioch and City of Oakley border.
The call came in at 11:11 am which at that point the fire was just 1/2 acre and sending a large column of smoke into the air. The fire was located along Highway 4 near the Laurel exit and in vegetation near where the new roads being built.
As crews arrived on the scene, the fire grew to 1-acre in size with a gravel road helping limit the extension of the fire to other nearby vegetation. Crews on scene reported the fire had a potential to grow to 5-acres.

By 11:36 am, forward progress stopped at 5-acres.

Pretty obvious that someone in our midst has a fascination with fire. That person seems to be getting off on it all. Hopefully, the person will be caught soon, before homes and lives are destroyed
