Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Fire at Apartment Complex in Antioch

At 3:30 pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from an apartment in the 30 block of Madrid Lane in the City of Antioch.

Upon arrival, Truck 83 reported heavy black smoke coming from a two-story apartment building which was later determined to be a six-plex. The fire was reported on the first floor.

A short-time later, CONFIRE confirmed that there was at least one deceased victim.  It is believed that the person succumbed to fire and smoke.

By 3:43 pm, Antioch Animal Control was also requested for several animals who escaped the blaze and PG&E was also requested to the scene.

UPDATE
As of 3:55 pm – BC8 provided an update and stated there was no fatality in the incident.

As of 4:07 pm, the fire was reportedly knocked down. Heavy mop up was required
