EBRPD to Host Grand Opening of Extended Mine Tour at Black Diamond Mines

The East Bay Regional Park District invites the public to take a self-guided mine tour along the newly extended underground tour route at the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve in the City of Antioch–for ages 7 and up only.

All ages are invited to enjoy old-time games, the underground Greathouse Visitor Center, the Mobile Visitor Center, and a self-guided tour of Somersville. $5/vehicle parking. Carpooling encouraged.

  • When: March 10 and March 11, 2018. Noon to 4:30pm
  • Where: Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, in Antioch, CA
  • Why: Celebrate the completion of the big stairs project and the extension of the tour route!
  • Who: All are welcome. Ages 7+ may may tour the mine. Greathouse Visitor Center is wheelchair accessible, open to all ages, and dog friendly.

Please note: Parking will be limited, carpooling and patience are encouraged. A shuttle will run between the lower parking lot near the kiosk and the parking lot at the end of the road. The new route includes descending 112 stairs. You may opt to turn around at the top of the stairs and exit the mine on the level that you entered on. The tour route is not wheelchair accessible.

Too bad they can’t reopen the Nortonville Mine, In my youth I explored it many times and it was very interesting, it’s been sealed off for years now.
