Drones Assist Antioch Police and Firefighters to Rescue Female Trapped Near Marina

by ECT

At 12:45 am Saturday, Antioch police and the Contra Costa County Fire received a call from a woman that reported she was trapped in the Tules off the shore in the City of Antioch.

According to the female, she had been out for an evening walk along the shoreline to stop and enjoy the evening when she fell asleep. When she woke up, she found that the hightide had come in and was trapped in a place where she could not get back to shore.

Antioch Police arrived on scene and utilized a drone to assist in locating the female and upon locating her, assisted in guiding Contra Costa County firefighters to the woman.

The challenge for firefighters is they had to navigate around tall tule weeds and an old demolished fishing pier West of the Antioch Marina.  The rescue operation lasted approximately 2-hours.

Once rescued, AMR provided medical care of the female who was cold and wet.  No other information was available.

She fell asleep on her walk? After midnight? Along a river? Not a very smart thing to do! What are these people using for brains these days!
