On Sunday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District are currently on scene of a vegetation fire on Kirker Pass
At 1:09 pm, a vehicle crash sparked a vegetation fire which originally was estimated at one acre. By the time E85 arrived on scene, the fire had grown to approximently 4-acres. The incident has shut down traffic in both directions between the City of Pittsburg and City of Concord.
Contra Costa County Fire, CALFIRE, CHP were all dispatched to the incident.
As of 1:40 pm, the fire was estimated at 10-acres and a second alarm response was requested per BC8.
UPDATE
As of 1:52 pm, the fire was estimated at 30-acres.

At approximently 3:00 pm, CALFIRE confirmed the fire had been contained to 35-acres.

KIRKER PASS is one of THE most dangerous roads in the county! Whoever designed it must have been a civil engineering school drop out! That, and the fact that many motorists do not know how to drive on it, has resulted in a lot of crashes over the years. A few wound up in the ditches covered by vegetation and found only days later in bad shape. Not surprised some bozo crashed and started the fire. I avoid that place like the plague.
