Detectives from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff are continuing to  investigate a homicide that occurred early Sunday morning at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds located at 1201 W. 10th Street in Antioch.

The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Amber Abangan of Oakland. The autopsy was performed this morning. The cause of death is a gunshot wound to the torso.
On Sunday morning, at about 1:36 AM, Deputy Sheriffs were initially dispatched to a report of someone brandishing a firearm at the Paradise Skate Roller Rink which is located on the Fairgrounds. They were also told that a fight had occurred earlier at the location.
Antioch police also responded and reported that three people were shot.
Deputies arrived to find a large crowd still at the location. Abangan was taken to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch where she was later pronounced deceased.
Two other shooting victims remain at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Their injuries are said to be non life threatening.
Detectives are still trying to find the exact motive for the homicide. No suspects have been arrested.
Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call the Office of the Sheriff Investigation Division at (925) 313-2600. For any tips, please email: [email protected] or call (866) 846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message.

From Oakland?? I’m shocked! NOT!!!! Go back to Oakland and Richmond and kill each other there!!! Thank you Antioch counsel members for running Antioch into the ground and allowing these low life scum bags to consider Antioch a haven!!

Concerned Sep 10, 2013 - 1:31 am

People should be accountable for their own actions. To put blame on anyone else is irresponsible.

Richard Sep 10, 2013 - 8:19 am

It’s not an individual problem, it’s a culture problem….
What’s irresponsible is ignoring the real problem and saying it’s an individual problem!

In My Opinion Sep 10, 2013 - 6:22 am

That was harsh! There are decent people in all neighborhoods EVEN outside of Antioch, hun. Contrary to what you may think, Oakland & Richmond are not cities populated totally by criminals. The murder could very well have been born and raised in your precious city.
Your self righteous indignation is horribly timed and disgusting. If nothing else have a heart. Sheesh..Show some respect for her family and friends who are greiving. I am shocked by your biased rant on: who needs to go back where and how their relocation to “your” “pristine” haven has ravaged and disparaged it by their existence alone, per you. Step down from your rickety soap box Miss, and have a seat. News flash, incase you’re unaware; every city has a “ghetto” and crime of some sort. I find it hard to believe that you sit there vehemently typing garbage with “clean hands”; as well as, family and friends who are also 100% perfect. While sitting comfortably on your high horse, have just a little compassion..for a murdered young woman who happened to be an innocent bystander. Silence is sometimes best.
BTW-I didn’t know this young lady personally, I have friends that grew up with her. I am praying for her family and others who were also hurt by this tragic crime.

93% of all Blacks killed in this country are killed by Blacks…
Ignoring the problem makes you part of the problem!
And if someone hangs out with thugs and defends thugs and accepts their behavior as normal, they are part of the problem!
Want to see your future? Look at your friends!
The biggest problem in this country is Parents not parenting…. And people like you marginalizing the Culture of Violence in the Black Community!

Disgusted Sep 10, 2013 - 12:02 pm

To be so ignorant to blame it on Oakland, you’re no better, just as ignorant. I was raised in Oakland and my 5 children are educated, beautiful and more respectful than anything that could possibly come from your ignorant Ass. Oops, guess that was the Oakland in me.
It doesn’t matter where you’re from if you’re an ignorant Asshole, then that’s just what you are.

i remember when just 1 homicide in a year had everyone shocked, but this is just sad. i hate Antioch now, i will do whatever i have to to get my family back out of here, until you guys wake up and bring back my hometown!

Kelly Sep 9, 2013 - 9:38 pm

The owner has worked very hard to make the rink a safe place. I am angry that thugs from another city are allowed to ruin our cities. They say they want out of the violence, but they bring it with them. Stay home.

Big B Sep 9, 2013 - 9:48 pm

Oh wow! I heard 10 or so shots and then police car motors and tnen the sirens! I knew it wasnt good!

Ang Sep 9, 2013 - 9:54 pm

Couldn’t agree with you more, Michelle! Get all the people from Olkand and Richmond out of Antioch & we’ll have Antioch return to how it once was!

No surprise where she was from. Sad for her life gone now. The sad thing is the some of these ppl brought the ghetto life right behind them. Wow, Im so glad my kids are in college and can move away from ECC soon. My kids grew up here when it was so quiet and before that their dad grew up here and it was just nothing but beautiful farms. I can when I was 19 and what a shame it has become to live her. Where is the peace out here it is so over crowed with a bunch of broken promises by disloyal politicians. Where are the police to protect us from the filth you brought out here? I am so disgusted. Someday, I might be able to leave, but what about the ppl who are stuck retiring out here. We are not safe day or night.

S. Sep 19, 2013 - 11:24 pm

WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHERE SHE WAS FROM. YOU OBVIOUSLY DID NOT KNOW AMBER. HER FAMILY WAS VERY
TIGHT KNIT AND VERY GOOD PEOPLE. AMBER WAS A VERY SWEET PERSON. SO TAKE YOUR JUDGEMENTAL TAIL SOMEWHERE AND SIT IT DOWN.

Another issue is most ppl now are running into long waits at Sutter Delta, John Muir because of gun shot wounds. I waited 5 hours on a Monday for a Migraine. Guess Why…. What happen to County????

Concerned Sep 10, 2013 - 1:28 am

Emergency room visits are for an EMERGENCY…not migraines. See your primary care physician durning normal business hours or an after hour urgent care clinic.

concerned Sep 10, 2013 - 6:32 am

Obviously you have never had a real migraine. They can be so bad that you cannot see clearly, you are vomitting and feel the only relief would be to shoot yourself in the head. Don’t pick on someone seeking emergency treatment for a legit illness please.

Sick of This Sep 10, 2013 - 8:36 am

Not if you have a conditionthat sends you to the hospital know it all. Cracker Jack doc degree I suppose. lol

concerned (about people who unfairly attack others) Sep 10, 2013 - 9:05 am

To Sick of This. First forgive me for accidentally using the same name “concerned” as “Concerned”. We are not the same person. The comment about migraines was at the person who dissed you for going to the ER for one. I have been there myself with a migraine and was letting the person who attacked you know they have no clue.

Noelle Sep 10, 2013 - 9:23 am

LOL I cannot believe I just read that. God forbid a gun-shot wound should come before your migraine! haha Wow….

Ang what u said is just a dream and memories of this once mayberry of a town, now a city in turmoil and wrought with crime enabled by a system that is being defrauded my millionsand that is the entitlement program called the welfare and sec 8 voucher program, how is it that a city can be absolutly helpless on decisions in which people can come into ur city with taxpayers money FREE,money, live in any neighborhood between hard working tax paying homeowners and do what the hell they please,we here about every violent crime every day,we rant about the crimes and dont hear much from the city about whats bein done besides go have coffee with the chief? violent crimes should be on the agenda at every meeting in this city and of course aired on TV publicly so every one can see what is bein said n done because if we crammed every concerned citizen into city hall we would probably have riots.maybe even public announcments every week on what is being done about the low income crime,we also need to know what positive things are bein offered to the youth of this city ie: programs, recreation,i noticed pittsburg and antioch has new soccer fields but i dont think that the thugs commiting crimes play a whole lot of soccer, why doesnt antioch create a boys club or youth center’s togive the up and coming young gangsters a place to hang out,i dont like tax proposals but if the money were to go specifically to these programs and specifically to police and fire maybe folks wouldnt be so hesitant to give a small tax for those types of things.

Richard Sep 10, 2013 - 9:01 am

I got a better idea, Legalize Open Carry and watch the crime rate plummet!

LB Sep 10, 2013 - 12:01 am

Leave the guns alone people, this shit is final………………………….

Kenji Freitas Sep 10, 2013 - 8:09 am

Again, people, the reason crime is so bad are you all keep voting, over and over again, for liberal politicians that are soft on crime. Vote for politicians that are hard on crime, I do, it’s very easy, the next time you vote, move the pen over to the other box. How do you expect any change when you keep voting for the same people over and over again who have done nothing to reduce the crime? You complain about section 8, yet you all voted for Mr. Section 8 himself, Federal Glover, over and over. He ran unopposed at the last election. We need new people with new ideas in all levels of government here in CA. Vote smarter at the next election, people!

Richard Sep 10, 2013 - 8:41 am

Kenji, you won’t be taken seriously….
You’re asking people to think on their own.

Vote them out! Sep 10, 2013 - 9:30 am

What happened to tough on crime????? What happened to holding the landlords responsible for their tenants????

Kenji Freitas Sep 10, 2013 - 9:47 am

Actually, @Richard, I’ve seen lots of people like my comments on the Facebook page, and I’ve seen others posting similar comments now. I think people in Antioch are getting sick and tired of the rising crime and are looking for solutions, and hopefully won’t be voting along party lines, but voting smarter. Rock the vote!

Julio-Antioch Sep 10, 2013 - 12:49 pm

Remember Antioch is divided into Mary Piepho’s area and then to the north of 10th street I think it is Federal Glovers area. Close anyway. Choose wisely in any vote. Educate yourself!

Kenji Freitas Sep 10, 2013 - 1:32 pm

Yes, that was a recent development. I live in the ghetto so I am still in Federal Glover’s area. I wrote to Mary Piepho about crime, however, I am not in her district. Again-Federal Glover ran unopposed in the last election-we need to get someone who is hard on crime to run against him!!!

S. Sep 19, 2013 - 11:13 pm

OMG. .I KNOW AMBER AND HER FAMILY. MY ♥GOES OUT TO HER MOM AND DAD AND THE WHOLE ABANGAN FAMILY. DAMN. I AM IN SHOCK..THIS WAS SENSELESS. )-:
