Contra Costa County Fire Says Church Damaged in 2-Alarm Fire in Antioch

On Sunday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of smoke and flames coming a building in 1100 block of Buchanan Road in the  City of Antioch.

The fire was reported at 6:00 am and while responding, units received multiple calls of smoke and flames coming from the Planned Parenthood building on Buchanan at Balboa Ct. It began from an electrical box and worked its way to the attic.

While responding, heavy flames could be observed from Highway 4. A second alarm fire response was requested for manpower.

By 6:45 am, the fire was knocked down and deemed under control. Antioch Police Department and AMR on scene, along with a response by East Contra Costa Fire and PG&E. The westbound roadway at Buchanan and Contra Loma is blocked as crews work the scene.

No information on how the fire started or total damage has been released as of 7:12 am.

 

9:30 am Update:

Per Contra Costa County Fire, firefighters extinguished a two alarm fire in the 1100 block of Buchanan Rd in Antioch. The fire was contained to one of three buildings on the property. The affected building contained a dental device business and a small church. Nobody injured. The fire is being investigated.

 

10:45 am Update

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District stated a flare up occurred with active fire in the attic. They requested Antioch Police to the scene to shut down the roadway. A full alarm response was requested. PG&E also on scene working to stop an active gas leak. The fire was quickly knocked down.
