CONFIRE Says Homeless Cooking Fire Started House and Vegetation fire in Pittsburg

At 12:16 pm Tuesday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a backyard fire that extended to a home in the City of Pittsburg.

The fire was reported in the 90 block of Chelsea Way  Engine 86 arrived scene reporting heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. The fire was quickly determined to be wind driven from a backyard to a home and embers flew to nearby vegetation catching multiple other backyards on fire.

As of 12:35 pm, the vegetation fire was estimated at 3-acres with units making access from Los Medanos Elementary school. The fire was also impacting several solar panels.

As of 12:42 pm, the fire on the home was knocked down per Battalion 8 on scene. Solar panels were also on fire.

1:00 pm UPDATE

CONFIRE reported the vegetation fire was knocked down and there were no other structure threats. Students at Los Medanos Elementary School were briefly evacuated due to smoke, however, they are now back in class. A total of 3 acres were burned and no injuries were reported.

1:15 pm UPDATE

Con Fire investigators on scene Chelsea Way, Pittsburg vegetation fire have determined fire originated in area along adjacent walkway where cooking had taken place near several homeless encampments. Investigation continues. Please use caution in all outdoor activities
