City of Antioch Hires Six Police Officers

by ECT

The City of Antioch welcomed six new police officers to its police force Thursday which is hopefully a sign that crime will soon be further reduced.

Thanks to a more attractive package passed by the City Council late in 2012, the police department hired experienced officers to its Department from nearby agencies such as Stockton,  BART, and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office.

“As I read the officer bios, it’s wonderful when we can bring officers from other agencies and take advantage of the experience they bring,” said Police Chief Allan Cantando.

He credits the council’s ability to see the need for experienced officers and upgrade pay and benefits to lure them away from other Departments.

“The reason why that is happening is because in 2012 our city council took some risks to make us competitive in the hiring process. I am absolutely certain that is why these officers are here today,” said Cantando. “The caliber of the officer we are bringing in is outstanding.”

The salary ranges between $6,800 to $8,300 a month depending on experience. The new officers bring the total number in Antioch to 89 and they still have 13 more slots which they hope to fill within the year.

The hires include: Ofc. JP Hulleman, Ofc. Marcos Torres, Ofc. Amel Sahnic, Ofc. Trak Keo-Vann, Ofc. Ben Padilla, and Ofc. Matt Allendorph.
