CHP: 22-Year-Old Pittsburg Man Dies in Highway 24 Crash

The California Highway Patrol is reporting that about 11:46 pm Sunday, they was advised of a solo vehicle collision in the area of westbound HWY-24, just west of St. Stephens, in Orinda.

Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, the vehicle had overturned and the male driver (sole occupant) had been ejected and sustained major life threatening injuries.

In the initial investigation, it appears that the male driver, 22yr old from Pittsburg, was driving his Kia Spectra sedan on HWY-24 westbound just west of St. Stephens and for reasons that are still under investigation veered the Kia to the right and off the roadway and struck an electrical box and chain link fence. Subsequently the vehicle overturned and the male driver was ejected.

The driver was transported to John Muir Hospital with major life threatening injuries. A few hours later while at the hospital, the male driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
