PITTSBURG, CA – Small business owners in East Contra Costa County are invited to learn how to increase their business opportunities with the state of California during a free workshop on Thursday, June 25.

Co-sponsored by Assemblymember Jim Frazier, the California Department of General Services and the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, the State of California Small Business Certification Workshop will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the chamber office, 985 Railroad Ave., Pittsburg.

The event is open to both Chamber and non-Chamber members.

Staff from the Department of General Services will walk participants through the process of becoming certified to do business with the state, the first step in bidding for and soliciting service contracts from multiple state agencies.

Although exceptions apply, most participants who bring their laptop computers and proper information will become certified during the workshop and gain the opportunity to market themselves as California state certified businesses.

In addition to their laptops, participants should bring their business’s three most-recent federal tax returns; their Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN); Secretary of State number; the home address of their business officers and member/manager/partners; Dun & Bradstreet number (if applicable); Contractors State License Board number (if applicable); and a list of keywords that best describes the goods and services their business provides (255-characters limit; commas and periods not permitted).
