Assault of 69-Year-Old-Man Now Ruled Homicide, Antioch’s 7th of 2015

by ECT

The Antioch Police Department announced Thursday that an assault of a 69-year-old man has now been ruled a homicide by strangulation and Lisa Parker has been re-arrested.

The investigation into this incident has revealed that Lisa Parker and Johnny Reed were in a relationship and on 11/19/15 Parker and Reed had an argument at the Peppertree Way address.

The argument lead to Parker assaulting Reed and strangling him with a belt. Parker then left and walked to a relative’s house on William Reed Drive where she called the police and told the dispatcher that she had just strangled Reed and left him lying on the floor with the belt still around his neck.

When Officers arrived they found Reed with the belt around his neck and no signs of life. Officers began CPR and the Fire Department took over when they arrived. A heart beat was eventually re-established and Reed was transported to an area hospital.

After Parker’s original arrest on 11/19/15 this case was presented to the Office of the District Attorney. Parker was taken into custody and booked into the Contra Costa County Jail where she is being held on $2.235 million bail on charges which include:

  • PC 12022(b)(1) Use of a Weapon During a Felony
  • PC 12022.7 GBI Causing Coma or Paralysis
  • PC 205 Aggravated Mayhem
  • PC 273.5 Spousal Abuse
  • PC 368 Elder Abuse
  • PC 664/187 Attempted Murder

After review, the DA’s Office chose not to file charges at that time. The decision not to file was based on the fact that the victim was still on life support at an area hospital and the attempted murder charge would not be appropriate in the event that the victim died.

The victim, 69 year old Johnny Reed of Antioch, remained on life support without any indication of brain activity until family members made the decision to remove him from life support on 12/7/15.

Reed succumbed to his injuries and died on 12/8/15.

On 12/9/15 the Office of the District Attorney filed this case, charging Parker with Murder and Elder Abuse-Causing Death. Immediately after the DA filed the charges, Antioch Police Detectives had a “no bail” warrant signed for Parker’s arrest and then located her as she was arriving at her relative’s house on William Reed Drive.

Parker was taken into custody without incident and has been booked into the Contra Costa County Main Detention Facility.

This is the seventh homicide in Antioch for 2015.

This is crazy! I spoke to him the morning of this horrific incident. I just ran into him after about 3 months ago. He and I used to wait on the bus, as we both were on our way to work. He informed me of his recent stroke 🙁

May he RIP . I hope she receives EVERYTHING she deserves in there..
