Armed Barricaded Subject Surrenders After Standoff with Antioch Police

by ECT

At around 5:00 pm Sunday, the Antioch Police responded to a report of a subject who was barricaded in a home and was armed with a weapon on Star Mine Ct. in the City of Antioch.

Police were originally dispatched to a domestic disturbance where a male, age 49, allegedly assaulted and threatened his mother before the call escalated to an armed barricaded subject threatening to shoot officers. It was suspected by police the man was under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to Sergeant Matthew Harger, it was learned the male was possibly under the influence of a controlled substance, armed with a gun, and wanted to commit ‘suicide by cop’. An Antioch Police ‘Crisis Intervention Team’  (CIT) Officer was on scene and after negotiating with the male for nearly  2 1/2 hours, was able to convince the male to peacefully surrender.

Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place until the incident had concluded. Both AMR and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were requested to the scene as a precaution.

A short time later, after the male was taken into custody, he suffered a medical emergency and was transported to an AMR unit and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No one was injured in the incident.
