Antioch: Vandals Target Camby Road Christmas Decorations

by ECT

IMG_2808

The Grinch showed up on Camby Road last night and ruined the beautiful displays two homes offer East County during the holiday season. Both homes that were vandalized have high traffic this as people from all over the county come to view the displays. They also collect donations for the local food banks and Toys for Tots while giving folks the opportunity to take a photograph with Santa.

Multiple readers tipped us off to this incident on their way to work and were upset someone would do such a thing.

We ask that if you have any information on those who did this act of vandalism that you contact the Antioch Police Department at (925) 778-2441. You may also text a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using key word ANTIOCH.

Here is a look at one of the homes fully decorated before the vandalism occurred.

Our friends over at Claycord reported a similar vandalism of Christmas decorations in Clayton and Martinez on Dec. 9. The photos below were taken this morning at roughly 6:45 am.

That is just wrong. The time those individuals put into setting up the beautiful decorations for all of our enjoyment is extensive. Hopefully these vandals are caught and prosecuted to the max!

This is awful! Why would someone like destroying others property and hard work!! People need to respect others!!

Julio Dec 10, 2013 - 10:34 am

People should respect the spirit of Christmas as well as other peoples property. This just reinforces how far down this country continues to slide.

lettenna Dec 10, 2013 - 10:16 am

I haven’t seen it other than these pictures, but it looks like someone or something got tangled up in the cords dragging the other stuff down as the lines were pulled. Anyone missing a dog last night maybe?

If u look back on the fb feed a couple days ago. A female wrote thay she was really p’d off and dont be mad if ur ran over because u want to stop in middle of road to look at sum stupid lights. Of all the positive comments hers was the only threatening ones. Not pointing fingers or assuming. Simply stating out of hundreds of comments she was the sour one who lives near them. My opinion, js

Not surprised by this with the direction this city is headed in. Just another day in Antioch.

Crystal Dec 10, 2013 - 10:57 am

This has happen to my family and serval people on my street when I live in Antioch this is such a shame people should embrace the wonderful feeling of Christmas and if they have that much hate or jealousness in there heart they should seek help

Kati Dec 10, 2013 - 10:59 am

This hurts my heart. Why damage/ruin someone else’s property, especially a display of Christmas joy that so many people enjoy. I hope these idiots are caught.

Maddie Dec 10, 2013 - 12:02 pm

Idiot immature what kind a parent this kids have that do such a mean thing like that? I hope they get Caught, that way they will pay for what they did for this family.

These fricking people in this town make me sick… you all go back where you came from we don’t want you here …yea you ,that came here from Richmond, Oakland, and Pittsburg go back to the ghettos where you belong….

Melissa Love Dec 10, 2013 - 12:32 pm

Just because you were born/raised in a ghetto/lower income neighborhood does not make you rude, a criminal or a vandal… I’ve lived in Pittsburg all my life (AND work in Oakland) and have been surrounded by some of the most generous and kind people I have ever met. This act of vandalism is horrible & disheartening, I agree… but no need to point fingers at other cities…

Chanel Dec 10, 2013 - 4:50 pm

Agreed 100%

I wish there were a “like” button for your comment. 🙂

Ginney Dec 10, 2013 - 5:53 pm

I totally disagree with that ‘Pittsburg’ remark [well, all the cities you mentioned] It isn’t the town, it is the people who enjoy doing bad things no matter where they live. Destroying someone’s property, especially these 2 houses is just senseless, shame on the individuals that did this..maybe it was caught on someones camera?

#icanhelp – so many of the comments left at this website seem to follow prejudice against class or demographics. There are people who make poor decisions everywhere.

Elizabeth Dec 13, 2013 - 12:06 am

I live in Pittsburg thank you very much!!! And I am FAR from ghetto my dear!!! I lived in Antioch before I lived in Pittsburg and Pittsburg is now becoming nicer than Antioch! Besides not everyone from Oakland, Richmond, and so on are rude ass people to do something like this! These people just have no respect!!!

Leslie Munson Dec 10, 2013 - 11:21 am

You know this wasn’t adults. Ask yourself if your kids could do this and be honest about the answer. This was so disrespectful.

Mo Dec 10, 2013 - 11:26 am

Now that’s pretty low. People never cease to amaze. People decorate in a large part for children. What if your folks decorated and some low lifes came by and did that to your family home? Not so fun, eh?

Paul Rehm Dec 10, 2013 - 12:07 pm

this is my parents house like to thank you all for your support we have it all back up and running the show will continue tonight

Laura Dec 10, 2013 - 3:16 pm

when i lived in Antioch, i loved going on Camby to see these displays. i hope this doesn’t deter them from continuing this custom. it brings so many people great joy.

Sharon Dec 10, 2013 - 4:25 pm

Thank you for your gift to our community. Your family has created a wonderful, awe-filled display that puts joy in the hearts of young and old. I was so looking forward to taking my grandson to see your display and it just puts such sadness in my heart to see what has happened. I sincerely hope that this does not destroy your loving and giving spirit. I hope the vandals are found and will pay whatever penalty is given to them.

Eva Dec 11, 2013 - 9:38 pm

Warmth and beauty right there. Huge thanks for their labor of love.

SHANNON MING Dec 10, 2013 - 1:51 pm

SATAN WILL NOT WIN!!!

Nicole Dec 10, 2013 - 2:16 pm

I want to cry! Those people do so much for our city every year and ask for nothing in return. I hope the family knows we’re not all like this!

Nadia Dec 10, 2013 - 2:22 pm

This is nothing new. . .my neighbor used to put out seasonal decorations all the time, and then had to bring them inside before dark. And this is in a relatively nice neighborhood. I’ve never even tried to decorate because of that. We’ve had a lot of trouble just keeping sprinkler heads replaced from the school kids who can’t keep their hands off anything at all that can be destroyed. This is terribly sad, but it isn’t surprising.

Julio Dec 10, 2013 - 2:22 pm

Thank you to you and your family Paul. Merry Christmas.

James Dec 10, 2013 - 3:31 pm

I just drove by on Sunday evening, to see this display, as I have for many years. It warms my heart. The other large display on Bluerock Drive, had to install cameras on his property to “try” to deter vandals. It’s sad, but it’s not just Antioch, it’s this generation coming up that has parents who don’t delay gratification or instill a set of values for what it takes to earn the money that pays for those decorations, the electricity, and the time and energy. Too many people are handing things off to their kids or letting them get their “entitlements” and they have no respect for the hard work that people have to do to make something like this come together.

Mo Dec 10, 2013 - 5:16 pm

Well said.

Reginald Jamal Brown Dec 10, 2013 - 9:16 pm

I agree, 100%

Chanel Dec 10, 2013 - 4:47 pm

Antioch is getting worse! I feel that there should be a curfew for kids under 18 but then again even some immature adults are acting as kids. Sorry to hear this happen, I would visit these home’s every Christmas when I lived there and they are beautiful. Take the ghetto out of Antioch!

Danna Dec 10, 2013 - 9:21 pm

we actually have a curfew. its 11pm. not like its enforced or the kids actually listen

For why Dec 10, 2013 - 5:30 pm

“Only in America”.
It’s sad, unfortunately we have our soldiers getting killed trying to civilize the Middle East when our country has become uncivilized. Time to bring our Hero’s home to protect us from this scum. We need our soldiers on our streets. I bet these pieces of s— gang bangers put their tails between their legs and go back to their shacks.

Reginald Jamal Brown Dec 10, 2013 - 6:14 pm

ahhh.. the gift of section 8.

Crap like this will continue to happen until the law abiding citizens stand up and demand something to be done.

Kate Dec 10, 2013 - 7:28 pm

I hope people in the community get together and help them repair what’s broken. That would be the neighborly thing to do.

Lisa Dec 10, 2013 - 8:33 pm

This is horrible! I cannot believe what low life people there are that don’t respect our neighborhoods and the Christmas spirit.
These houses are right behind mine and I always look forward to going by there. They give back to the community by working hard to put up such beautiful decorations for is all to enjoy and have a food drive & toy drive.

angelina Dec 10, 2013 - 9:12 pm

I cant believe people can be such a holes. Where did these people learn respect and manners from?!?!?!

Rick Hale Dec 10, 2013 - 9:18 pm

Goodbye Sweet America….

Kala Dec 10, 2013 - 9:19 pm

This is my grandparents house that was ruined, People need to grow up. It was a huge disappointment for my family. Luckily we all got together and fixed it.

sandy flaharty Dec 10, 2013 - 10:55 pm

Very sad to hear about this, I drive by every year to enjoy these beautiful displays. Alot of hard work and lots of money the owners put in for all of us to enjoy, they know what the true spirit of Christmas is and I am so sorry this happened to such kind people! To the jerks that did this just remember, what goes around comes around and I hope you get what you deserve very soon!

Carolyn Brown Dec 11, 2013 - 11:14 am

This is why I am so happy to have moved from Antioch 12 years ago. It was a nice place to live about 30 years ago. Its just a ghetto now !!!

K Dec 11, 2013 - 11:58 am

Im sure I’ll take a hit for this but Antioch is not ghetto because of some punk kids that damaged this display. It is not ghetto because section 8. It is not ghetto because families from Richmond, Oakland, etc have moved here. Lets stand up for our city instead of bashing it. Put the responsibilities back in the parents hands. Raise your children to learn respect for others and their property. Teach them what its like to work hard for a living. Im happy the display was repaired and can continue to be enjoyed by the community. It shows the brats that damaged it will not win. Don’t give these kids their 15 minutes for their negativity. Let the positivity of the display outshine them and their actions.

Jessyca Dec 11, 2013 - 12:01 pm

You do realize the picture they used for the Camby Vandalism is also one of the pictures they say are from Claycord? While I feel sad someone would do this, they need to get their captions right.

EastCountyToday Dec 11, 2013 - 12:23 pm

Jessyca… we linked to Claycord. All of the pictures in this post are from Camby.

Darrell Dec 12, 2013 - 1:03 am

The more I look at these photos, the more I’m think a stray dog managed to get himself tangled up in the wires and panicked a little bit. Vandals could have made a much larger mess than this without really trying. I’d like to think nobody would do this intentionally, anyway. Merry Christmas! Keep the spirit.
