With the Antioch Unified School District preparing distance education in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), they are seeking the help of the community to help provide students with access to online services.

The district is seeking iPads, Laptops, Tablets and computers less than 5-years old as they are working to launch a more formal online learning program by the week of April 6 which includes processes and online classes.

According to the District, they are one of the most diverse districts in Contra Costa County and serves the largest number of children experiencing homelessness and who are involved in the foster care system—more than 600 students, highest poverty rate and largest students in group homes with license care institutes.

“While many of our families have the at-home devices they need to access online learning, many do not,” said Superintendent Stephanie Anello. “We are asking the community if they have any laptops, iPads or computers less than 5-years old to consider donating them to the District so we can provide them to our students. We are greatly appreciative of any donation you are able to provide.”

According to Anello, to help students have access, they are looking at a variety of ways to ensure everyone has online access from providing donated computers to outfitting school buses with WiFi and parking them in neighborhoods to providing access in school parking lots with WiFi capability.

Businesses Owners, Managers: If you have upgraded your technology and have not gotten around to recycling your old technology, please reach out to AUSD to see if we can put your devices back in service. All devices will be wiped clean and repurposed with AUSD programs.

The District will also be accepting financial donations as well.

Please contact Joseph Gengler, AUSD Technology Manager at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected].
