Antioch Unified School District Maintenance Yard Damaged After Homeless Fire

by ECT

At 4:11 pm Monday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire that broke out in the 700 block of W 18th Street in the City of Antioch.

The fire was located behind the Antioch Unified School District maintenance yard along the old railroad tracks between E 18th Street and William Reed. The fire is suspected to have been started by homeless.

The incident sent smoke into the air and eventually damaged several containers and threatened a building.  Ultimately, there was minor damage to a building along with several containers filled with AUSD contents that were destroyed.

By 5:30 pm, it was confirmed that at least one trailer was damaged and smoke had entered the maintenance building. A portable also sustained some damage.  PG&E was requested to the scene.
