Antioch: Two Firefighters Sustain Minor Injuries While Battling Vegetation Fire

At 3:04 pm Saturday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were alerted to a vegetaiton fire in a canal area behind the 2900 block of Pear Street in the City of Antioch.

While responding, a cloud of white smoke was observed and this was determined to be a working fire that was bumping up to homes on Cathy Court. A second alarm structure protection was requested due to high wind which was catching both brush, grass and trees on fire.

At one point, at least one firefighter was injured and issued emergency traffic. He was located and sustained minor injuries and was released on scene. Crews worked the fire which was limited to less than 1-acre and crews prevented at least five homes from catching fire after they were threatened.

Overall, two firefighters sustained minor injuries and both were treated and released on scene. Preliminary information was that two youths were scene running from the canal at the time of the incident.

No other details were released and the fire is under investigatino.
