On August 6, students within the Antioch Unified School District are invited to the 2016-17 Fill the Bus event which is a kickoff to the school year with a school supply giveaway.
Claryssa Wilson, a Sophomore at Antioch High, has scheduled her Kickoff the School year School Supply Give a way for Saturday, August 6th from 11am-2pm located 3440 Hillcrest Ave, Antioch. Students in grades K-12 can receive FREE school supplies.
According to Wilson, this event is the first for this school year which will be followed by the Winter and Spring give a ways.
Claryssa has been very busy shopping and preparing.
She also credited the Golden State Warriors for joining and supporting her efforts by providing a limited supply of Official Golden State Warriors Backpacks. Her goal is to serve over 200 students with the necessary supplies to start the school year strong.
“I feel that it is important for students to be prepared on the first day of school because it sets them up for a successful school year and limits the excuses of not being able to learn and participate due to the lack of supplies.” states Wilson.
This event is sponsored by Ivancich, Martin & Costis Youth Foundation, the Golden State Warriors, Mayor Wade Harper, Antioch Schools Education Foundation, Republic Services

More free stuff. Yay!
Do you ever have anything positive to contribute?
What’s wrong with trying to give kids who may not have supplies otherwise a leg up? You do realize that education is one of the keys to lessening the number of section 8 folks that you’re so fond of whining about?
I said “yay”
I totally read sarcasm there. Mea Culpa!
It is nice to see this young lady using her time over the summer in such a positive way. Good job, Claryssa, and thank you to the donors willing to help support students with these resources.

Kudos to the Golden State Warriors. One problem: Children and parents in poverty will covet these backpacks. Does the organization plan to donate the backpacks to kids that are too young to hurt each other over possessing one?
