Hat tip to our readers who informed us of a rollover crash with injuries at the Antioch Speedway last night that left one man having to be transported via helicopter to a local hospital. The crash occurred at 9:15 pm.

The crash occurred as one car bumped another and tangled together and with the fence causing the car to flip multiple times. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District rushed to the scene to free the driver and were on scene for just over an hour.

According John Bellando Jr, the drivers name was Peter Murphy who was driving a sprint car. The two cars bumped together the one car got on its side the wing of the car got tangled in the fence flipped about four times landed on its side another car hit it in the roof.

“It was a horrible thing to watch,” said Bellando Jr.

According to Dennis Fraser, Mr. Murphy is in stable condition and alert but undergoing tests late last night.

A couple other descriptions of the accident could be seen on Facebook. Here are a couple of the posts following the incident:

Jim Thomson: Murphy ran up on slower traffic ran up over a right rear sent him into the front stretch fence taking the wing off rolled to turn 1 came to rest on the right side with the top facing on coming traffic.00 did the best he could to avoid him pitch the car sidways hitting the top of the cage with his rear-ended

Ryan Welch: Peter Murphy got air lifted after the fire Dept cut the car apart to extract him. Race called off with 16 laps left.  The #0 car was in first, then Peter, #1 in second. Both were driving great. Lap car didn’t realize Peter was coming on the high side of main straight. Sent him into the fence, rolled and then hit by #00. I saw #00 driver exit his car, and sprint over to check on #1 who was up side down. Scary wreck
