Antioch: Sheriffs Deputies Shoot and Kill Man While Serving Protective Order

At about 1240 pm Tuesday, Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriffs from the Civil Unit went to an apartment complex on the one thousand block of Claudia Ct. in Antioch to carry out a Domestic Violence Restraining Order/Criminal Protective Order, which included a move out order.

Deputies contacted the occupant who had a no bail warrant. During the contact, the occupant charged at a deputy with a weapon. The deputy fired his duty weapon striking the armed man. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Per the county officer involved fatal incident protocol, this officer involved shooting will be investigated by the DA’s Office, Office of the Sheriff and Antioch Police Department.

No details about the deceased man were provided.

  • Antioch Police were notified for an outside assist and immediately sent 4-units to the location after a crowd began to gather around the shooting location. They provided immediate crowd control.
  • According to sources, deputies attempted to pepper spray and taser the suspect, however, due to his size, it had little impact.
  • Another source said law enforcement has had many run-ins with the subject.

Detectives from the Contra Costa D.A.’s Office, Office of the Sheriff and Antioch Police Department continue to investigate an officer involved shooting.

At about 1240 PM, Deputy Sheriffs from the Civil Unit went to an apartment complex on the one thousand block of Claudia Ct. in Antioch to carry out a Domestic Violence Restraining Order/Criminal Protective Order, which included a move out order.

Deputies contacted the occupant, who also had a no bail warrant. During the contact, the occupant resisted and charged at a deputy with a knife. The deputy fired his duty weapon striking the armed man. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The 29-year-old man is not being identified at this time.
