Antioch Unified School District in the collaboration with Antioch Rotary Club proudly had the event, “Day of Empowering Girls” on October 27, 2022.

Over 700 eight graders attended the event.  The program included: local, diverse women panelists that discussed overcoming obstacles and their successes, motivational and keynote speaker Tracie Berry McGhee and breakout sessions with Girl Power high school leaders, teachers, and local professionals.

The Antioch Rotary Club arranged for 10 female, diverse and successful panelists to discuss their professional careers and to answer any questions that students may have.

Panelists included:

  • Paula Alba-Green, Sr. Production Engineer, Corteva,
  • Tricia Piquero, Owner-110 Degree Magazine
  • Jovita Mendoza, Manager/Councilwoman,
  • Rachelle Manning, Director, Sporting Goods at San Mar,
  • Tara Sanders, Contra Costa College and owner, Da’le Vino,
  • LaTasha Jones, Probation Officer,
  • Sandra White, VP Human Resources,
  • Catalina Murillo, Production Engineer,
  • Dr. Yenjean Hwang, Infectious Diseases
  • Stephanie Anello, Superintendent of School, AUSD.

As part of this project, the Antioch Rotary Club and Antioch Unified School District had many meetings to ensure the program focused on building future career and personal goals for the students by showing them a range of career options.  Additional, motivational speaker Tracie Berry McGhee had a strong message that you define who you are and not to be influenced by social  media or those who don’t have your best interest.

“We are very committed to the success of the youth in our local community of Antioch.  We want girls to know that their options are not limited and that there is a wide range of careers available to them”, says Antioch Rotary President, Ron Parish.

The successful collaboration between AUSD and the Antioch Rotary on this project goes back to 2015 and will likely continue in the future.

Thank God that the Rotary Club didn’t promote marijuana dispensaries in Antioch. Actually quite surprising. Suppose that will be done by Chamber.
