Antioch Police to Participate in No Shave November Fundraising Effort

by ECT

If you think Antioch police officers are beginning to look a little hairier than normal…you’re right!

Starting Tuesday, members of the Antioch Police Department began participating in No Shave November.  For those of you not familiar, No Shave November is a fundraising effort to “grow” cancer awareness and raise money to support cancer prevention, research, education, and to help those fighting the battle against cancer.

Antioch Police have a goal of raising $5,000 dollars by the end of the month.  The money raised will benefit the following organizations: American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Officers participating in this worthwhile cause will be exempt from adhering to the department’s facial hair restrictions as outlined in our Personal Appearance Standards policy. Police say that for this one month exemption, officers must make a $25 dollar donation. Although growing facial hair is typically associated with men, women are free to participate as well.

The initial concept of No Shave November is “to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.”  The premise was to donate money one would typically spend in the month on shaving, grooming, and waxing toward this worthy cause.  This includes legs and armpits for women.

To reach our goal, it’s going to take more than just the donations of the participating officers.

Police are asking everyone whose life has been affected by cancer, or who knows someone whose life has been affected, to please help support our fundraising efforts by donating.  No amount is too small and every penny counts.

Payments can be made in cash, check, or credit card.  Cash and checks should be given to the police department with checks made out to No Shave November (with Antioch PD written in the memo line). Contact Police Captain Tammany Brooks at (925) 779-6978.

For Credit card payments can be made directly to our fundraising page no-shave.org/org/AntiochPD.  Remember, these donations can be tax deductible.
