On Saturday, the Antioch Police Department hosted its 3rd Annual Holiday Food Drive where they provided some holiday joy to Antioch families.

In total, 10 families were provided with supplies for a holiday meal along with presents for the entire family. They also provided 75 bags of non-perishable food to needy families — along with an assortment of presents and teddy bears for the children. It’s estimated that 150 children received gifts and teddy bears. Antioch Police also provided 100 gift cards to a local grocery store for future use.

According to Antioch Police Lieutenant Tarra Mendes, they had 29 total volunteers assisting them both prior and during the event. The volunteers included Police employees and family members, Police Explorers and a group of students from Heritage High School’s Leadership class.

Lt. Mendez said the day was full of smiles by families.

“The most notable thing for the day was how grateful families were and the smiles on the faces of the recipients when we delivered the food and the presents to their houses. We also had a grandmother bring her grandson back after she picked up her items to thank us personally,” said Mendes.

Mendes highlighted this was the third year of the Antioch Police hosting a Holiday Giveaway and stated it would not be possible without the generosity of time and money from their staff as well as the community and local businesses.

Police not only provided goodies at the station, they also delivered items to families.

“These events mean so much to our staff,” said Mendes. “They allow us to interact with our community on a different level as well as provide some much needed assistance to those who are struggling. We feel blessed to be a part of such an amazing community.”

Antioch Police Captain Tammany Brooks stated he looks forward to the event every year.

“I look forward to participating in this event every year. Giving back to those in need within our community is special to me and to others here at the Antioch Police Department. It’s part of our culture, and just another reason I’m honored to be part of this great agency,” said Brooks.
