The Antioch Police Department announced an arrest of Avente Ridley, 21, as the suspect in an October 2 shooting in the 4800 block of Knollcrest Drive in the City of Antioch — near Black Diamond Middle School.
According to police, a large group of juveniles and adults came involved in an argument when Ridley produced a gun and fired several rounds at the crowd and at least two times into an occupied vehicle. The 49-year-old, female driver of the vehicle suffered a graze wound to her leg, that did not require hospitalization.
The incident prompted Black Diamond Middle School to issue a release on the incident.
“After school ended today, an incident occurred on a nearby street which may have involved the families of a few of our students. At this time, we do not believe any students were injured. Unfortunately, however, some of our students may have witnessed this event. The incident occurred on Knollcrest and Shannondale Drive. If you students would normally travel in this direction on their way home from school, please check in with them tonight and sure them that everyone is well and that they will be safe at school tomorrow. If your student does not travel in that direction, they may hear about the incident and be concerned. We will, in our advisory classes tomorrow, address any concerns students may have”
On November 8, US Marshals located Ridley in the 4700 block of Shannon Dale Drive and took him into custody.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed attempted murder and weapons charges against Ridley, and he is currently in custody at the Contra Costa County Jail
