Antioch: Female Shot in Chest, Stolen Property Recovered

by ECT

At roughly 4:10 pm Friday, Antioch Police responded to a report of a shooting at Delta Fair Blvd and Somersville Road in the parking lot of the Somersville Town Center Mall.

Antioch-Police-IMG_7007It’s unclear at this time if the vehicle was shot at on the mall parking lot grounds or shot elsewhere and parked in the mall parking lot next to Chevron gas station. Three females appeared to have occupied the vehicle and were being interviewed by police.

Antioch Police did say they believed one person was hit but they were unable to locate anyone. They did not elaborate further on any questions. The three females who occupied the vehicle were not being cooperative with police on scene.

 Update

LOCATION: 2550 Somersville Rd. (Somersville Towne Center) at 4:11 pm

On the above date and time, Officers were dispatched to the report of a fight inside the mall. While officers were en route, dispatch received a call of shots fired. Numerous officers responded code 3 and made contact with a vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. Inside the vehicle, officers contacted a 20 year old female suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

First aid was rendered at the scene and she was transported to an area hospital where she is in stable condition. At this time, the shooter is still outstanding and no other persons were injured as a result of the shooting.

It appears as if this is an isolated incident and the case is still under investigation.

While on scene, officers received information of an unrelated theft. During the theft at least one subject made mention of having a gun. A vehicle stop was conducted as the vehicle was leaving the parking lot and three females were detained. The stolen property was recovered however no weapon was located.

After further investigation it appears as if the gun information was unfounded and the second stop was not related in any way to the original shooting.

No further information will be released at this time as the case is still under investigation. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to contact the Antioch Police Department at (925) 778-2441.

Here is a recap by police on the two previous shootings earlier this month at the mall.

  • On 8/5/16 at 5:30 pm officers were dispatched to the Somersville Town Center on reports of shots being fired near Macy’s. While en-route, numerous callers reported various vehicles fleeing and numerous subjects running. An extensive area check for any witnesses and/or victims met with negative results. Mall security advised of a possible verbal argument or potential robbery in the area of where the shooting took place. During a canvass of the parking lot, officers located two spent .45 caliber casings in a parking stall near the main entrance. Sears called to report two males had run through their store and into the apartments across the street. Sears believed the two males to be involved in the shooting.

  • On 8/6/16 at 11:21 am APD dispatched received numerous calls of shots being fired at the entrance to the Mall. Upon our arrival, we located 2 different calibers of shell casing in front of the main doors indicating this was a possible exchange of gun fire. The front glass doors had a few holes along with a vehicle owned by a customer. We learned two pairs of males were in the mall and had a dispute over a new shoe that was released at one of the stores. The males started fighting in the middle of the mall. Security was unable to break up the fight because one of the males in the fight had a gun and a second male standing by the fight also brandished a gun in his waistband. The fight eventually spilled outside where the gunshots were exchanged. One of the males took cover behind an unoccupied vehicle as the male shot back towards the front of the mall. The 4 suspects all fled the area and no victims have come forward. The investigation is ongoing.

Go watch the city council meeting, this is the same mall where the staff told City Council is was a safe mall for people to come visit with many improvements. Third shooting in a month? I’ll drive to Concord or go to the Streets of Brentwood

I have not been to that mall in many years and do not even go to Macy’s. Macy’s will be the next to move out. That would be a blessing. The new mall owners are obviously not doing enough to protect the shoppers that are left.

Why insult heathens? Just because you’re a heathen it doesn’t make you a criminal…yet.

Witnessed a family eating in the Chinese Buffet Restaurant. They were quiet but asked many questions of the staff. The staff appeared to meet the needs as best they could. When the bill came the family became unhinged. Yelling ensued, the obscenities, then threat to heart the owner and/or destroy their property. The reason was the staff charged one additional plate for the “child” (look to me to be 5 or older) was squeezed into a baby chair. Most questions were directed at getting more utensils for the “child” as he kept dropping them on the floor. A special needs child? I can not determine but he ate more food than I did.
