At roughly 4:27 pm Friday, the Antioch Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery with shots fired at the Hardy Nix Jewelry store on Delta Fair Blvd.

As officers were arriving they learned a customer inside the Jewelry store had been shot and one of the responsibles in the robbery had been shot by the owner and was down on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. This subject was later pronounced dead at the scene.

It was also learned a second responsible in the robbery fled on foot east bound towards Kaiser. An extensive search was conducted for this subject with negative results. The victim inside the business was transported to an area hospital with what is believed to be a non-life threatening wound.

This information is preliminary as the investigation is ongoing.

Antioch Police Investigators are currently following up on leads. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Eric McManus @ (925) 779-6940.

The following information was provided as a Press Release via the Antioch Police Department, prepared by Acting Captain Robin Kelley.

Not sure I wan’t someone who can’t string together even one cogent sentence with the ability to shoot anyone, let alone those who most likely deserve to be shot.

I wish the store employee a speedy recovery. What a shame.

At least we have measure C money we are paying to increase our safety. Geez I feel safe already (sarcasm). Especially when they use all that money to hire all 2 officers for our PD!

I hope the changes to carry concealed firearms sticks when it goes to court. We need to defend ourselves from these criminals. There are way way too many criminals in this city and APD can’t be everywhere and in time.

I would rather see a suspect in a body bag than an innocent victim. Good for Leslie and mark and everyone else at Hardy Nix. I pray for a fast recovery. Take back Antioch!!!!

Prayers are coming for you Mark and Leslie that the trauma of this incident will not last long and your recovery will be speedy. Praying for the customer inside, that he/she will also recover from the wound. Quick action on your part Mark. Now for the hard part, healing.

You haven’t bought ammo in a while have you?
Any way nice to see someone being proactive in defense of themselves and their business. Now I fear that the store and owners will become a target for the low life’s family and friends trying to seek their version of justice. Be safe, and cautious.

We have the very best detective on this case. I met him when he was a patrol officer and then he became detective a couple years later. He is so dedicated and loyal to his team and his community!

Hope you and Leslie are okay! Good job Mark!

Good job you guys. One more real bad guy gone. Hope they get the other one too. This has got to stop. Antioch is being ruined by thugs. It was never even remotely close to this way before. Soon it will be time for the national guard if it keeps up.

Susan parsons Apr 14, 2014 - 10:34 pm

Right on Mark. You saved Antioch from further crime. They’ll maybe think twice before busting in with guns again. Right on!

Now that the dead guy’s name has been released, when do we here how great a young man he was? How he enrolled in college and was an aspiring rapper.

Reginald Jamal Brown Apr 16, 2014 - 9:18 am

Isn’t it funny how they are all “aspiring rappers”? LMAO. More interestingly, when they release a photo it is an elementary school photo, or one in flag football uniform.

Why can’t the media just tell the freak’n truth about these criminals and their real behaviors?

I don’t understand how thieves think they can target a jewelry business. . .how do they not know that every item is likely tagged (check out Microtrax online, for one) with a grain-of-sand sized chip which will be found when they try to unload the stuff? It will trace right back to the store where the item was stolen. You can buy this stuff right off the big-box store with the smiley face boxes and use it in your home to mark electronics and all valuables. It’s not even expensive.

I’ll be relieved when the second suspect is in custody. Hopefully, that will be soon.
