Antioch Police Chief Reports Part 1 Crime Down 7.7%, Arrests up 21.3%

Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando reported Tuesday night that Part 1 Crime in Antioch has been reduced by 7.7 percent while arrests are up by 21.3 percent.

According to the statistics, which compared Jan – March 2014 vs. 2015 over the same time period, the city has had 10 less robbery cases (down 14.9%) and 22 less aggravated assaults (down 18.3%) when compared to last year.  Overall, violent crime is down 13.6 percent.

Adult arrests saw in increase of 30.5 percent (an increase of 247 arrests) while juvenile arrests were decreased by 20.7 percent (37 less arrests).

During its proactive details, the Antioch Police held 13 operations netting 80 cases with 82 people arrested with 7 guns seized and 331 enforcement contacts.

According to Chief Cantando, the City did have an officer involved shooting, however, stated that involved the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office and they are assisting in the investigation. The City has also had 1-homicide in 2015.

When comparing homicides so far in 2015:

  • Discovery Bay – 1
  • Oakley – 1
  • Pittsburg – 2
  • Richmond – 8

The Police Department has also had an increase in Calls for Service by 6.2 percent when compared to this time last year. They have received 19,926 calls for service with 1,929 being Priority 1 calls. Another 9,389 were listed as Priority 2.

Police response times have dropped from 10:36 minutes in 2014 to 10:15 seconds in 2015.

The K9 unit had 35 arrests with 8 physical apprehensions.

According to the data, the Police Department has seen an overall 2.2% reduction in its traffic calls for service, however, they have seen an increase of 32.8 percent in traffic accidents with injuries. Non-injury accidents were down nearly 14 percent. Antioch has also had 2 traffic fatalities compared to last year when at this time they had 1.

Staffing

  • 102 Authorized Sworn positions including the Chief
  • 87 Full-time positions are filled
  • 12 Sworn vacancies
  • 3 Recruits began the academy on Jan. 26, 2015. They are set to graduate July 24, 2015.

Chief Cantando noted the department has had 391 applications with 56 candidates invited to oral boards with 23 placed on the eligibility list

East County Today, do some real reporting as anyone who listens to a scanner should know crime is not down. I hear sirens all day long. Please do your job and question these stats.

Statistics can be manipulated and looks like pd just did that.

I have to agree with the above. 12:30am multiple gun fire exchanged maybe around the AMC theater area on the 13th?! Hear this type of stuff going on all the time ;(

i don’t believe these numbers at all or that crime is going down in Antioch. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
